COMPUTER HELP

I recently installed/updated the latest version of Firefox. In doing so, I lost my ability to right click and use that bar menu for copy, paste, save image as, etc. Its really cramping my need to change my avatar frequently. I'm sure its something that has been toggled off in the about:config but I don't know which one. I also now have a toolbar at the very top that looks like a tiny yahoo toolbar, which says search the web for, email this, IM this, translate to English, and look up in dictionary, but I don't have the option to get rid of that toolbar. That toolbar disturbs me less than losing the right click.

Any ideas?

Sorry - Mac person here - we don't go to the right or the left. Zoom straight ahead.

I have never had the thing happen about losing the right click menu, but I think when you are updating and installing the latest versions, there on the small screen is the option of downloading the Yahoo toolbar. I think it is already checked and if you'd rather not have the toolbar, you need to uncheck it. If it were me, I would try to reinstall it, and be sure to uncheck the Yahoo toolbar if you don't want it, and hopefully the reinstalling will take care of the right click menu. Hope this works for you, Lori!

Lodi, you could try restoring your computer to a previous date. Select Start/All programmes/Accessories/System tools/Systems restore. Then choose a date before you installed Firefox. I don’t know if this will help, but in the past, I found that doing this “cleared up” any new settings etc., that were causing problems. Best of luck!

I had the same issue with an unwanted Yahoo toolbar. I must have hit a submit or enter button without realizing I was going to have the darn thing installed. I got rid of the browzer and reinstalled.

Lodi: Sorry to hear of the problem. I had weird issues when I installed the lastest version of Firefox, too. In researching, I found a patch that solved my problems. It disabled a portion of the new install that was screwy, but nothing else. Not sure if it will help you, but here it is:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7637

All the best,
Emily

Lodi - do you have XP or Vista?

I have Vista and even after the update, everything worked fine.

I have Vista, and the first time I downloaded the 3.5, it wouldn't open the browser on my desktop, and I lost all of my bookmarks. I reinstalled it, and seems to be working okay, but still didn't retrieve my bookmarks.

Mine's fine too, Lodi.

But I paid full price here.

I use Vista, and when I downloaded the new Firefox, it disabled my Norton Utilities toolbar. Since I had let Norton memorize my passwords, I couldn't get into any of the programs whose password I had forgotten. So much for convenience! It's better now, I guess they patched it.

I'll try the patch and if that doesn't work, I'll reinstall.

Right now I've shopped myself into a nap.

I had installed the 3.5.2 Firefox update, and tried to clear the cache from the Tools menu at the top and the Clear Private Data option had disappeared, and been replaced with clear history, and a last hour option or such.

I just now went back and installed the 3.0.13 version and read in several forums that people were having problems with the 3.5.2 along with the Clear Private Data option disappearing.

Thanks, Marilyn. That sounds like the best option for me. I have been too busy/lazy to deal with it, but will do so today.

Lori, this is the link for the 3.0.l3 download on Firefox:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

You have to scroll on down to the English and choose from Vista, Mac, etc. It also has the 3.5 option at the top, so ignore it and go on down.

I reinstalled the older version of firefox. Everything works perfectly and weird toolbars are gone. I have to wonder what the hell they were thinking?
