This is blatant censorship. Alert the anti-censorship police. They are usually in here. Where are they when we really need them???

This is just about political correctness, and you know how much i defend that....not. For example (from the article) "The National Gallery in London believes that the phrase “gentleman’s agreement” is potentially offensive to women and suggests that staff should replace it with “unwritten agreement” or “an agreement based on trust” instead. The term “right-hand man” is also considered taboo by the gallery, with “second in command” being deemed more suitable."
This is just about internal memos and the wording on their ads and literature, they aren't banning the phrase or visitors to the gallery !!! And this.....
Advice issued by the South West Regional Development Agency states: “Terms such as ‘black sheep of the family’, ‘black looks’ and ‘black mark’ have no direct link to skin colour but potentially serve to reinforce a negative view of all things black. Equally, certain terms imply a negative image of ‘black’ by reinforcing the positive aspects of white.

“For example, in the context of being above suspicion, the phrase ‘whiter than white’ is often used. Purer than pure or cleaner than clean are alternatives which do not infer that anything other than white should be regarded with suspicion.”

So some idiot with a shoe size higher than his / her IQ has wormed his / her way into a job with the South West Regional Development Agency. Needing to justify their salary they come out with this twaddle. Methinks it must have been a quiet news day, there's no story here.

This subject really gets my goat! (sorry to all you goats out there). A friend and I like to swap PC rubbish, one that I had in a place I worked was not to say 'Brainstorming' it now had to be a 'Mindshower'. I believe you could no longer tell the nursery rhyme 'Baa baa black sheep' how ridiculous is that - the sheep is bloody black in colour, it is not racist, what should we call black paint in the future? You can see that all this annoys me cos I am typing faster now!! Also one of our town councils decided we could not refer to Christmas as such, and it would have to be Winter Festival in future, so as not to offend non-christians! Most people celebrate Christmas one way or another even if it is just to swap pressies and eat and drink lots, but where do they think the word CHRISTmas comes from.

Oh dear better get off soap box now (is that non pc to soap).

Trish

Hey Linda we have enough politically incorrect right here. How about Beck and calling Obama a racist. Advertising are pulling out on his talk show on Fox.

Oh well, it's official now; the US Department of Justice will investigate torture.

Striping naked ( alleged) combatants
Threatening to rape wives and mothers
Killing children
Firing guns in a vacant cell then bringing a body disguised as dead to view
Eating baseballs
Smoking cigs until it's unbearably gagging

Hey, ask me to do any of the above consistently and I'll sing whatever you want.

Mr. Cheney is on a boat so he is not available for comment. What country do you think he's headed to? Interpol time; this really is the Dark, Medieval, Side, of torture. This is un-American.

Point of order, interrogators did not kill any children. They threatened to. Big difference. The point was creating fear in the detainees to get them to disclose information. They weren't actually harmed.

One person died. Besides, how reliable is the info if its from being tortured and coerced?

I'm not saying it was reliable information, just pointing out an error I saw in your post. I hadn't heard about anyone being killed. Personally, I think scaring someone is nothing compared to saving actual lives.

Oh we are still talking about the detainees at Quantanamo Bay, another relic left over from Bush and that terriorist himself Cheney. Obama still needs to do something about that situation. They have not been tried so how do you know for sure they killed children. Even if they are guilty we should not be torturing them. We are Americans and we should still believe in justice. It is a good thiing we are all on the same page, we don't believe in TORTURE right? As Christians right Jan?

If there have been no trials and we still don't know what all went on, how can you be so sure Cheney himself is a torturer? That seems a bit outrageous.

I don't claim to know what went on and I'm not passing judgment on any of them. I'm just saying that scaring someone in order to get them to confess something is not torture, in my definition. And doesn't it really come down to that, definitions? What one person considers to be torture might be considered something else. Besides, I believe that defense of innocent life is more important than protecting the sensibilities of known killers. That's just me and I don't speak for anyone but myself.

If people are detained without trial and only suspected to be terriosts, than any interrogations to get information unjustly is torture in my opinion.
