The WSJ published former Bush administration aide Jim Towey op-ed headlined critiquing the veterans’ booklet of "Your Life, Your Choices.”

Jim Towey was interviewed by Fox News' Mike Wallace. Towey distorts that the booklet encourages veterans to "pull the plug" -- it doesn't; Wallace and Towey both claimed that the Bush administration suspended use of the booklet -- it didn't; and Wallace claimed that a VHA document requires doctors to direct veterans to the booklet -- it doesn't.

Towey's organization which he founded, Aging With Dignity, a non-profit group is selling its own booklet on end-of-life issues. Towey's organization is also selling other tools to "Five Wishes" Aging with Dignity s "Five Wishes" booklet, including a "Five Wishes Video" for $24.95 per individual copy.

Is it the Cash for death by the President Obama or Death by cash for clunkers? More importantly, it should be named Cash for the Death Book.

Jim Towey tried to get the government to spend millions to purchase his "Five Wishes" book. How's that working out for an increase in tax dollars?

To quote Sarah Palin-- “In the name of soldiers quit making stuff up"

The freedom of this country seems to be killing the truth.

Towmey was on Fox News Sunday along with Tammy Duckworth-noted all of this in detail in another thread.-think you can see the entire transcript and video of the show there. The booklet you cited was put out by beauracrats under Bush but after Bush found out that the questionssin it posed things to even young wounded veterans like if your in a wheel chair or nursing home have you ever thought is your lfe not worth living. Bush had it taken offf. Obama folks had it put back up and as of last Sunday was still on their website with the note it was under revision. Poor Tammy when being questioned by Wallace came off as misinformed or outright lying-guessing the former. Noted in the other threadbelieved at some point Tammy will be "under the bus " when the Obama folks take it down because of the outrage. Does not speak well for have a committee of government folks writing the details of the health bills out there which willl happen if the mess is passed

There is a part of the video didn't see, Linda

Wallace and Fox crop doc: actually directs patients to " 'Your Life, Your Choices' ... or other published resources"

After Duckworth corrects Wallace, he again airs graphic, falsely suggests she is lying
From the August 23 edition of Fox News Sunday:

DUCKWORTH: Let me make a correction there, Chris. What our practitioners were told is to refer patients to any type of a tool. They can use Mr. Towey's if they want to spend the $5 apiece. VA SIMPLY WAS NOT WILLING TO BUY HIS BOOKLET AT $5 PER VETERAN AT THE TIME.

DUCKWORTH: CHRIS, IT HAS NOT BEEN REINSTATED. Let me make it clear: The only advanced directive that we have is dated February of 2007. And it actually encourages veterans to use any type of tool or checklist they would like to. There are many, many good ones out there. This "Your Life, Your Choice" [sic] is widely used out there, not just within VA. There are many others that are out there. And veterans are free to use whatever they would like to use. We just urge them to use them.

DUCKWORTH: Chris, I'm sorry. I can't see that on a monitor in here. I will tell you that I know for a fact that the only directive signed by Secretary [Eric] Shinseki -- I mean, signed by a VA secretary -- was actually signed by Secretary Nicholson, and it's dated February of 2007. What you're looking at may not actually be a directive. So I -- since I can't see it -- I'd be happy to come back and discuss it with you.

Whatever Beverly that thing as of last Sunday with a note it was under revision still on the website . It was taken down at some point during Bush and the Obama folks put it back up with the note it wa under revision. Duckworth saying that vets are referred to all sources is probably true and that Tomey wanted to sell his booklet as she politically pointed out probably also true.. Duckworth saying she could not see the monitor does not change the fact that what she said about it never having been taken down is simply not true.
