ACTIVISTS CALL ON TEXAS GOVERNOR PERRY TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH SECESSION

One of the most famous Texans was Sam Houston.
[Houston was a key figure in the history of Texas, including periods as President of the Republic of Texas, Senator for Texas after it joined the United States, and finally as governor. Although a slave-owner and opponent of abolitionism, he refused, because of his unionist convictions, to swear loyalty to the Confederacy when Texas seceded from the Union, bringing his governorship to an end. To avoid bloodshed, he refused an offer of an army to put down the rebellion, and instead retired to Huntsville, Texas, where he died before the end of the Civil War.]

The Texas Nationalist Movement has lauded his achievements - but read this recent newspaper article for an enlightening history lesson.

Rick Perry's talk of secession appears to have buoyed efforts by Texas secessionists who want the governor to follow through. At a rally Saturday on the Capitol steps, members of the of the Texas Nationalist Movement called on the governor and the Legislature to put a referendum on the state ballot on whether Texas should leave the union. At an anti-tax "tea party" protest in April, Perry touted states rights and raised the possibility of secession.
On Saturday, secessionist speakers denounced the federal government in general - and the Obama administration in particular. One speaker said, "We are aware that stepping off into secession may be a bloody war. We understand!" Another self-styled patriot invoked George Washington as an ally of secession (History lesson: Washington presided over creation of the union) and Sam Houston - "You go ask Sam Houston what he thought about secession. He did it anyway." (History lesson: Houston opposed secession. He ran for governor as an independent Unionist in 1859. Despite his efforts, the people of Texas voted to secede, and he was forced out of office in March 1861. )

This OVERT Lawlessness

When Sean Hannity runs a poll asking whether his viewers prefer a military coup, secession or armed rebellion -- and armed rebellion wins -- that's evidence of this kind of shift. Right-wing talkers have built careers out of demonizing liberals; but when they start talking about what specific steps should be taken against them, that's not something we should ignore

Rather than posting links that just talk ABOUT the poll and give their opinion about the poll why not link to the actual poll? There you can see the exact wording that was actually used in the poll:

http://forums.hannity.com/showthread.php?p=49091201 which says:

View Poll Results: Would You Support A States Right To Secede?

Yes- I would support a States right to secede and possibly move there. 195 72.76%
No – I would not support it but would let them go peacefully. 22 8.21%
No – I would call for Civil War to stop it. 51 19.03%

Now - I don't know about you - but out of all of Sean Hannity's listeners (and they are in the millions - he is the #2 talk show host in America) - only 268 people even responded to this poll. Not very important, huh? I didn't even know about this poll. Wonder who made a big deal of it so that you guys knew about it? And with only 268 respondents, do you think any attention to it at all is overblown?

Notice, Beverly, that you and that link had it totally backward. The question wasn't about going to war to try to secede - the question was about taking up arms to PREVENT any state seceding.

Please notice that makes all the difference in the world. Liberal links seldom accurately portray anything said/done by conservatives. But the proof was right there for anyone who really cared enough to look it up (same as I looked up the truth about Texas when you told me I was wrong. And I thank you for that!!!! You have corrected teaching I had probably 45 years ago and believed!)

Perhaps we should encourage them to SUCCEED instead of secede.

Yea, Jan that's why we have tea party-ers, Militia groups, and dumb people responding to the Fox Nation in mob like behavior.
Face it, President Obama is Right for America and they are not; no matter how you crunch the numbers.

I've given all the reasons and stats why this president is not right for America. And the rest of the voters will show that at the next ballot box - if we're allowed to ever have one again.

You're off the deep end, Church Lady.

I pray that you're right about that every day, Donna. I want with all my heart for that idea to be off the deep end.

But I fear that the powers that be now are more interested in just that - power.

We'll see. In November 2010, after that election, and in November 2012, after that election, I hope you're here calling me every kind of name for idiot that there is for even worrying. And I'll gladly fight the editors for censoring your words in any way.

You call me church lady and yet you complain I called a liberal a lib?

That's a somewhat warped sense of propriety.
