I'm still working on my tan and we already have the flu where I work. sigh

A swine flu outbreak has prompted Washington State University to tell people with flu-like symptoms to stay away from today's home football game against Stanford. Dr. Dennis Garcia with WSU Health and Wellness Services estimated around 3,000 students have been mildly to moderately sickened with the H1N1 virus.

I am as sick, if not sicker, than I've ever been in my life since 2:00a this morning. Suffice it to say, I was praying for God to cure me or kill me. Either one would have been good. Note to self, when you live alone, even though you're hardly ever sick, keep meds on hand.

I stole 7-Ups this morning. I dragged myself up to the gas station that has a drive through (on the lake) and the drive through window was closed. Argh!!! They were all very busy inside and it would be more time than I had ability to be able to stand up - so I left some cash on the counter, told the people behind me that I was too sick to wait, and I left.

Now I'm really worried that I might have left any infection at my student's apartment the other night, ahead of this. Certainly the last thing Mrs. Coopman needs is to throw up after brain surgery.

Thank God for long weekends to recover.

Geez, Jan. Enuff is too much. Poison Ivy, now this. Is the poison ivy gone? Wash a lot, so you don't share any longer.

Your illness is more reason, I think, you should stay away from those tea partys.. I more worried about you getting even sicker than you spreading you bug.

Hey- sorry - didn't mean to hijack the thread. No more about me! It's just school and kids sick bringing it up to the group.

Nope - the poison ivy is still around. I had a shot and 2 kinds of meds - one was prednisone. OMG - no more of that ever. I'd rather scratch than feel like my head is going to explode.

It's been a bit much, plus tears for my animals. But school has been a bazillion times better than last year, so I'd rather it be this way than how it was last year! Ick.

Now - enough about me.

We'll have summer another 2 months! I just couldn't live where you live, Lodi, with all that cold and ice.

Jan, I hope you feel better. Those crowded tea partys are a harbinger for illnesses .

Oh man - Feel better soon! Doesn't sound like you should be driving anywhere. Stay in bed, and sleep.

I work in some of the Queens, NYC schools as a consultant - last May and June a few of them were closed more than they were open due to flu symptoms. One of the Assistant Principals died - but he had all sorts of underlying complications. I'm wondering what it is going to be like when school starts up here next week.

The local hospital is weird - and this is a big-time very famous one. No restrictions on who can visit, or when. They had no problem with my almost 4-yr old grandson coming to visit grandma in the hospital. Anyone can spend the night in your room - there are no visiting hours anymore. I cannot help but think that basically this is not good for disease control.

Wow! I hadn't thought about visiting hours at hospitals. That should probably be cut back - only makes sense.

Jan, get better!!!

Lodi, stay safe and healthy!!!

When my wife retired in '99 from a local hospital I thought my sick days would diminish because I considered her a "carrier" of every virus known to man. Wrong! She then went to work part-time in an assisted living facility just to keep her RN license valid. I am still getting her "bugs". She never seems to get sick. She just delivers it to me. Now with the H1N1 I suppose I'll experience all the new crap. Sometimes I think that my tendencies to "juice up" on occasion actually helps kill a few of those ugly little bugs. At least that's what I think and I'm sticking to it.

Wow, Jan, sorry to hear you're sick.

My doctor's office doesn't even have the flu shot yet so I'm a bit nervous with so many sick students on campus. We have to make special concessions for those students as regards to missing class, and on Friday, central administration sent us flyers to post to tell people with any of the given list of symptoms, to go home.

I've worked at WSU for 15 years and I've never seen anything like it.

The agency I work for actually came out with a policy saying anyone who got the flu didn't have to take sick time, just stay home and provide a doctor's note when they return. It seems that some people come to work sick, much to the disgust of the ones who are well. Flu and the note is the get out jail free card now.

Jan, you've had the worst few weeks I've ever seen. I hope this long weekend goes a long way in making you feel better. A moratorium should be declared on any more bad stuff for you! Feel better soon!

For friends at Sploofus. The rural area we live in has 3 confirmed H1N1 cases and a local school is closed for a meningitis scare.

On the up side, you can now contact all those people who promise something "when pigs fly," and collect. Swine Flu.
