I am helping my son buy a car from craigslist, and this is the response to one of the inquiries we made.

Hi again,
I have to let you know that you have to accept those 6 steps to make the deal:
1. First I need your details (first name, last name, street, city, zip code, state, country, shipping e-mail address and phone number) so I can open the case with eBay Motors and with the shipping company.
2. You have to make a deposit of $3500 US at eBay Financing Center, they will keep the deposit in a trust account and won't be released to me until the transaction is ended.
3. When I get the confirmation from eBay that your payment has been done,I'll inform the shipping company to start the shipping in the next 24 hours, you will receive the item in 3-4 days at your address.
4. You have seven (7) working days to test drive it and inspect it at your local dealer,if you don't accept it,eBay Financing Center will refund your money and the shipping company will ship it back at my expense.
5. I will be able to pick up the money only after the transaction will be complete and I will sign the title in your name and the bill of sale.
6.If you are OK with this please e-mail me with the required information's in order to get this deal arranged with eBay. Have a nice time!

I guess "they" are always posting scams like that in our local Craig's list. Delete it and move on.

I've only sold a couple things on Craigslist, but learned quickly
how some of the scammers work. Keep email to a minimum.
Craigslist's advantage over eBay is that it's fairly local. Deal
with people by phone and in person. No reason you should
have to provide any info by internet.

When I received email questions, my first response was, "Are
you anywhere near Sioux City." Most never responded. One
did and I told him to call me on the phone.

There is NO WAY I would even consider buying or entering into an arrangement to buy a used car before seeing it, driving it, and quite likely having a mechanic give it a physical (unless I had personal knowledge of the car's history or was coming from someone I trusted implicitly.

It always looks like a great deal right up until &*$% it financial or the problem the owner claims 'did not exist when he owned it" blows up on you.

We sold a car through Craigslist, but we chose a buyer who lived an hour and a half away, so we did everything by phone and in person (met halfway for inspection, etc.).
