RJ'S SOLITARY CARDIACS ASSN. BY SPLOOFUSAURUS

I am chagrined by the length of time it took me to "get" this one. Sheesh. But I sit in admiration. Good one!

Bbear - I'm afraid I had to delete your too-appropriate comment. Feel free to post it again when the puzzle has ended.

The first time i have ever "got" one of these, albeit a bit late. I still don't see how the theme could be detected until you'd completed one element though. The saving grace with this one is that it uses well known "phrases".

beat kaufman for time. Now I can die happy.

clevercloggs; I was going to post that now you understand how people can do it in five; but I see that's redundant. If its a global conspiracy at least this time every one is in on it!

When grading on a curve, you'd like a few A grades but too many means it's too easy. (Note to self: gotta make it harder next time.)

Thanks for the kind remarks, looks like those who got it, liked it. For those who didn't, it was a takeoff on the Beatles album that once helped rearrange some of my neurons forever, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I still hear that chord when everything else is quiet...

Anyway, here's all the puzzles:

Who Needs Enemies? : with a little help from my friends
Bejeweled Aeronaut : lucy in the sky with diamonds
Recuperation : getting better
Bunny Home Repair : fixing a hole
Seeking Her Fortune : shes leaving home
Maybe A Tail Would Help Him Fly : being for the benefit of mr kite
Navel Variation : within you without you
Many Years From Now : when im sixty four
That Hayworth Girl : lovely rita
Double AM Salutation : good morning good morning

Note to CC:
Solitary Cardiacs Assn. = Lonely Hearts Club
Sometimes the title is the first clue.

Oh, I guess that's why I didn't get it - not a Beatles fan.

RJ

As someone who has rightly been accused of giving too cryptic a clue, your title was a suitable give-away for cryptic crossworders like me, and those who remembered or thought they remembered that you had done another Beatles album a few months ago. I admit not everyone does crosswords and if RJ was in the hospital a few months ago that was a promising dead-end I agree. But 'solitary cardiac' was a loud bell ringing.

Note to all; with the cryptic themed puzzle the title is VITAL -- ignore it at your peril.

This was just right (if you don't know the Beatles whom will you know?)

I still have the mark on my head from when I realized, after my first puzzle (and a waste of 5 moves and about 300 seconds), that RJ had written the earlier Beatles WP of the same ilk. Congrats to the those of you more aware of their universe than me. My teachers always told me I should start paying attention in class!

Dang, I was totally lost. If I had gotten "with a little help from my friends" or "lucy in the sky with diamonds" or "when I'm sixty four," I *might* have figured it out. But the five I got meant zilch to me.

Recuperation : getting better
Bunny Home Repair : fixing a hole
Maybe A Tail Would Help Him Fly : being for the benefit of mr kite
Navel Variation : within you without you
Double AM Salutation : good morning good morning

Ah well. Perhaps this will better prepare me for the next one. Or not

50 million Beatles fans [low estimate] loved this puzzle. I was on to this one right away.
As I said earlier, this puzzle was guaranteed to raise a smile!

I immediately grokked the concept after Ron's last effort, but was looking too long for medical wordplay on my (unfortunately) first puzzle before deciding there was nothing to do but play it straight and enter "Within You Without You". Hence my 5 was half a minute or so slower than it might have been,
