Hmmm.....not sure what to say here! Kanye's music is some of the best in rap right now with decent lyrics.....a bright light amidst a bunch of gangster rap with terrible lyrics. I "want" to boycott his music.....but if I did there wouldn't be his equal left in the genre! I would never buy a Taylor Swift ticket anyways....hmmmm.. I'm torn.

I checked out the videos. I think the word "some" is a good precursor to the word talent when describing him/them.

Pedestrian/redundant/draggy beats -- that a fifth grade band could master in a single class -- that go nowhere and do not have anything resembling a melody line in them...which would be a basic requirement if it were to be considered music.

An often heavily processed voice that seems to do well at staying on beat, but probably cannot stay on key, or perhaps cracks. Occasionally decent street poetry, but not musical. Lot's of pretty boy this and that...gratuitous sluttish girl in the one. Pretty standard stuff.

I'd give them a 10 on the boring meter, or 4 sits on the Sit or Spin music show.

Steve, don't buy his music but one of my kids is a fan of his music (not him). I don't care for most rap as it is demeaning to women and actually makes a life of drugs and crime seem worthwhile. As for poetry I have heard it said that some of it is, but the message on most of it escapes me.

I don't care how good he is at what he does.

He STOLE this girl's moment. Can you imagine working for something so hard and earning the top award, standing there shaking with excitement and nerves, your very first big award! She said she had dreamed of this moment.

And that jerk STOLE that moment forever and ruined this life changing event from this girl. This is the recording she has for the rest of her life of her first big award.

Now that we see the result, who cares about his outburst anyways? She is getting so much attention and spotlight and sympathy.....I didn't even know who she was until today. I'm sure this will only make her stronger....(sorry, had to say that, its in the words to Kanye's song....)

Kanye West has gotten enormous attention and made incredible amounts of money in the last few years. Apparently all of that has given him the mistaken notion that he has the right to break into a professional ceremony with his opinionated self. He can produce the most amazing music we've ever heard...it still won't make him any less of a slug for what he did.

Kanye West, Jay-Z and Rihanna just performed on the new Jay Leno Show.
Before their song, Kanye asked Jay to let him talk about what happened at the awards show.
To his credit, he was contrite and admitted it was rude behavior. He feels he needs to take some time off from touring and think about his actions lately. His mother's recent death affected him a great deal.
This article explains more:

Thanks Editors. I posted a link that I did not think was age appropriate or family friendly........

"Occasionally decent street poetry, but not musical. Lot's of pretty boy this and that...gratuitous sluttish girl in the one. Pretty standard stuff."

Okay, I ignored this comment, but I"m going to repeat, his lyrics are pretty decent for popular rap. Google the lyrics to The Neden Game by Insane Clown Posse. Contrast the songs above with this older one I heard in someones care yesterday, and you'll see what I mean. If you think this is just one extreme example in the genre, you'd probably be wrong!!! I hear similar or worse songs all of the time....

SYL I repeat he has merit and my daughter has his music. I have listened and like some of the lyrics. I really like "heartless". I just find some of his comments of late have been controversial. Like the one in which he proclaimed he was the new "King of Pop" after MJ's death. I know you are trying to make a point so I will let you get to it.

Yes Bobo, in your case I'm preaching to the choir.

Bigmama said, : "what does race have to do with it"?

I admit, my first thoughts went to questions of racism when I read the story about his behavior. It certainly seems possible that he would "protest" Taylor's win because he believed the voters were racist, and therefore the best candidate didn't win.

Of course, it's also possible he thought the voters lacked musical judgement I guess, and like he said maybe he just thought the best candidate didn't win. Hard to say.

I don't have alot of hard firm opinions about this, which is why I'm not saying much. I imagine, only Kanye knows.....
