3,000 at work have it, both my kids are home sick. Anyone else having a flu epidemic?

My son said they are threatening to close his school if enrollment drops any lower.

I'm freebasing Purell, btw.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. I keep Purell with me at all times. I'm starting to smell like ethyl alcohol.

Hope your kids bounce back quickly.

I've got that ethanol smell too. Gotta get some of that Purell as a cover story.

We even had a poor little girl pass away yesterday in Dallas....swine flu. I'm thinking I retired just in time. Lodi, hope your kids bounce back quickly. AND that you don't get it.

No problems of note in York, although nearby Gettysburg College has seen lot of flu cases recently.
I'm on our office safety committee, and I'm scheduling a flu shot clinic for the building employees.

Nothing on that scale yet in NY State, just some isolated cases. The State Ed. Dept. put out a 15 page memo this past Friday for guidelines in dealing with "the situation". Since I work at a school we are closely following county health department and state regs.
The CDC in conjunction with state entities are publishing their own recommendations for parents and schools to follow. It's a good idea to be familiar with what your local protocols are.

Personally, I am hoping this is more overblown, media-generated-hype.

We're not seeing anything more than the odd case in South-central IN.

My daughter's language school is Sweden was closed after only 2 days of the new term because a teacher and a student were sick (small school) but now Carrie and Jacob are both sick. They are going to the doc tomorrow to be on the safe side.

A friend told me she had read that swine flu will be attacking mainly ages 6-24 -- grade school, high school, and college-age people. Older people have built up immunity over the years, but can be hosts, so all should get the swine flu shot. Apparently, many hospital workers and especially nursing home workers (!!!) don't believe in the shot's efficacy, and some businesses have told their employees, "Get the shot or you're fired." There may be a second shot too, for the seasonal flu.

Do we have an update from your infirmary, Lodi?

Fevers are gone - those broke yesterday. Rylee sounds like she's been smoking a pack a day with the cough and the hoarse voice. Connor still feels crappy and has a sore throat. Both will be staying home today to further recuperate, and Rylee is sitting in her room coughing and blubbering at the same time because she wants to go to school.

I'm going to sneak into the office for a few hours and try to catch up a bit on 2 days work.
