You know, I meant to have a huge garage sale this summer. I finally have realized I'm just too lazy to do it, with all the sorting, price marking, etc.

Last winter, I took everything I had gone through so far in my move up to my middle school and asked my students if there was anything there they would like to give to their families for Christmas gifts - since I knew some are just so poor they can only afford their ipods and iphones. (Sorry, my cynicism overwhelms me sometimes)

Anyway, I did enjoy watching them "shop" through my boxes. They were delightful! And I got rid of things I no longer need, given where not only would they be used but would give enjoyment to the kids to be able to actually give gifts.

I saw that. Outrageous. I understand trying to protect kids and that's admirable, but this goes a bit too far.

When nobody else covers the news of what the actions of this government, what can you do? You go with the link that tells the truth. It's happening more and more often that the other news sources turn their back on the truth to try to protect their own interests.

"The "Resale Round-up," launched by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, enforces new limits on lead in children's products and makes it illegal to sell any items that don't meet those limits or have been recalled for any other reason."

You have a point. maybe it's the people that imbibe this stuff. So, who here is in favour of lead poisining kids ? As Faux Fox would undoubtably ask.

Thats right Linda you listen to that garbage and give up something you enjoy because of stupid government regulation that will be impossible to enforce. Just like burning CD or DVD and copyright enfringement. Faux news likes to spread hysteria as much as you and your pals do.

From the title of this thread, I thought that garage sales had been banned. Faux post from Faux news.

Fox just reports the garbage coming out of this current government. Garage sales are not banned but if you have one you can be fined-fact-not hysteria. Likely to happen? Most likely not but who thought much about "fishy" emails being reported to the WH before Fox reported it and presto it was stopped.

Linda - I don't usually get involved in these threads, but your Thread Title was really misleading here. All the article really said is that you cannot sell items that have been recalled. And, seems to me, that's a good thing. Of course, no one will ever check - so if someone wants to sell a 100% lead baby rattle they'll do it, but why wouldn't you be careful of anything that you buy - store or garage sale?

Sorry if I mislead but this is yet another government regulation. Not many people would knowingly sell nor buy anything harmful but most people who have garage sales don't check some government safety website.

The bottom line to me is this:

If it was ok for the stores to sell to us, why is it not ok for us to resell it without penalty?

All penalties should go onto the company that made the unsafe products - NO penalties to the public upon which the unsafe product was pedaled.

the penalty would be on the person who bought the lead tainted object.

Right - rather than the company that sold the tainted product to the unsuspecting consumer.

I think that's injustice.

Bobo, the trouble with Sicily is the Mafia. It leaves its mark in the lack of opportunity for other Sicilians - no industry. Real unemployment might be 35%.

Hard to find a building whose exterior DOESN'T look unimproved for decades. You'd think the island would be swimming in Home Depots, yet I saw no such home improvement businesses. Poor and depressing.

Here's the latest Camille Paglia at Salon; Remember, she's an ardent Democrat.

Andy this a partisan opinion full of untruths so if you read her you don't need FAUX (FOX) News Channel

This woman is so far off base she says...

"let the blame be first laid at the door of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who at a pivotal point threw gasoline on the flames by comparing angry American citizens to Nazis. It is theoretically possible that Obama could turn the situation around with a strong speech on healthcare to Congress this week, but after a summer of grisly hemorrhaging, too much damage has been done. At this point",

http://www.bigeddieradio.com/

Two out of three Americans who watched President Obama's health care reform speech Wednesday night favor his health care plans, a 14-point gain among speech-watchers, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. national poll.

Size Matters; So Do Lies, Andy

Now tell me something good, um, um.

If this is an example of "critical thinking", it proves what my personal opinion of Indie is truth. They don't know whether to put the right or left foot in the polling place unfortunately.

She's a loyal Dem in favor of health care reform who thinks Obama has all but blown it.

Rasmussen, the pollster who most accurately predicted the last two elections has

strongly approve vs strongly disapprove at 32 vs 39 = -7%

approve vs disapprove at 49 vs 50 =1%

Opposition to the President’s health care plan is up to 56%.

Can you say, a failing Presidency.

I can. Needs a major overhaul of his admin to turn it around.
