As to how they got their names......... Pirate is a stray cat that showed up with a very messed up eye. He had a tumor behind it and had to have it removed….hence the name Pirate because the poor baby only has one eye.
Smokey was also a stray and totally gray. No brainer there.
I bought BC last year for Ben and the BC stands for Ben’s cat. If you have looked at the pictures on my profile you will see why it now stands for “bad cat”.
Stranger showed up in the backyard. We fed him for a year until he was calm enough for us to take him to the vet. He just became “Stranger” because we knew nothing about him.
Lucky was rescued from the pound and we figured that made her a lucky cat.
Our last name is Stephens so it was only natural that we name one Cat Stephens. (although we don’t spell it the same way.)
CW is after “the cat who came for Christmas” because he came to us right before Christmas.
Rooster was a little stray dog. His tail curled over his back and was feathery looking plus the fact that the poor little thing was so chicken hearted and literally afraid of everything…hence that name.
Three just happened to be the third cat at one time. We lost him to kidney failure but then another one the same color as him showed up and we called him Three Too. (he was not in the puzzle however).
The last name Dog is pronounced “dee-oh-gee” and with our warped sense of humor, we just thought it would be funny to name a cat, Dog.

Happy that everyone enjoyed it. Thanks for taking it.

Hearing about the pets is the best part! I wish that could have been incorporated into the WP instead of random stuff.

We are not quite as clever with our cat names. Black cat, gray kitty, girl kitty, and.........Lois.

LOVE the stories. I think ALL folks putting these up should explain the names. Way cool.

Thank you, Marsha!

In case there's confusion, all authors are invited to post the stories behind the pets' names after the puzzle is over! That's part of what this new community WP theme is all about! We hope the stories and discussions will be another way for you to get to know each other better. Enjoy!

Re phrase nine. In "Three Blind Mice" the farmers's wife said nothing to, or about, the mice. She mutilated them, not maligned them. Picky i know, but i thought i'd mention it.

Thanks for sharing those stories with us, Marsha! I think I like "CW" and "BC" the best. Interesting trivia tidbits you chose to go with the names as well!

Thanks, Marsha. That kitty in your avatar...looks like he's not entirely into the whole millinery idea right now...

I once had a cat named FOB because I rubbed her belly and she shredded my hand.
