The recent thread of classic advertising slogans was fun. While we normally avoid commercials, there are a few out there that stick in our memory.

What commercial currently on TV (or elsewhere) actually makes you smile? I like the Folgers commercial with the Irish dancers. If coffee could give me that energy, I've have an IV installed.

Silly rabbit trix are for kids; my cousin and I still laugh with this one.

I loathe most commercials (especially those horrible locally-made ones for car dealerships), but there are a few that crack me up.

My current favorite is the one for Pentium where the geeky guy in his sweater vest is going to get coffee and this rock music is playing and girls are swooning. He's the co-inventor of the USB and it says, "Our rock stars aren't like your rock stars."

My all time favorite commercial had to be the one where the parents are dancing and kicking up their heels to the tune of "It's the most wonderful time of the year" while the kids glumly following behind at Office Max or was it Staples..

Love the commercials. That kid is so cute.

Cadbury's Flake ad's with all those sexy girls "performing" with moist lips. I'm shallow i know, fun ain't it ?

I just thought of another one.Two old people are sitting on the couch. The husband is nibbling on some chocolate; the wife complains nibble, nibble, all the time. That's all you do. The husband responds the time it will be you, my dear.

My all-time fave commercial is the Folgers Christmas ad where the son is coming home from the military, sneaking into the house in the morning, making coffee for his folks. His little sister comes running in to see him.

Just the thought of it puts a happy tear in my eyes. It's been around for years, but I hope it never ends.

I'm with Goddess28 on the one. Actually there are a few of those with the same kid. The first one, I think, was when his "Possy" car was getting laughed at. Then came the one where he was a restuarant greeter. Then one where he moved to wherever(I forgot) and is wearing green tights. Another he is on a rollar coaster. And the last one is where he wants to buy a cell phone and they give him a huge cordless phone.
Anyway, all those are so silly, and make me laugh.

I always liked the Coke commerical with Mean Joe Greene and the little kid...and the Christmas one from Folger's Coffee...

I like the Christmas coffee commercial too. The free credit report ads are not as good as they used to be; the first ones were great. I like the Geigo ads with the cave men and the gecko. And what's the advertiser with the baby at the computer talking about trading stocks? I think that's cute.

You know the one I really HATE? The one with the whiny mom scolding her kids for throwing away their telephone rollover minutes.

I agree on the 'rollover minutes' commercial. When she goes off on him and he rolls his eyes, I want to take all their phones and 'roll over' them, with my truck.

Hope I don't offend but has anyone seen those Viva Viagra commercials with the couple on a vacation. That and the exteenz commercials crack me up.

I forgot about the cavemen! I love them! They are always having a great time and then look so sad and dejected at the end, too funny! They almost ruined them for me when they made that stupid comedy show out of them, but luckily that didn't fly.

I'm watching ESPN right now and it's the first time I've seen the Chinchilla Day Las Vegas commercial. It's cute.

Watching the link on Monkeynips post reminded me of the Evian commercial featuring the rollerskating babies. Here's one version:

One of my all time favorites and the BEST Superbowl commercial I've seen (apologies to Vickie, Coke, Mean Joe Greene and anyone else I've offended) is the one for Tabasco Sauce. There's a young boy on the front porch putting Tabasco on each bite of his pizza. You can see a couple of empty bottles underneath his chair so he's been using a lot. A mosquito lands on his arm and bites him. The kid doesn't flinch. The mosquito flies away and in about ten feet simply explodes! Hilarious.

Nothing but love for the exploding mosquito commercial.

Quickly becoming my fave commercial is the FedEx 2 person office, where the owner hired a celebrity to pump them up about going global - which is totally perplexing to the ONE employee.

Pregnant pause................almost whispered, "I'm sorry Dick Butkus"

I love the E trade baby commercial where the baby barfs. I bust out laughing every time. Also where there are 2 babies and one of them keeps breaking out in song.

Jan and Lodi, I love those, too! Oh, and thanks, Goddess, for mentioning the commercials. I've been singing that blasted song ever since!!

I honestly don't get the Viagra ones. When you are outside in two separate clawfoot tubs, what exactly are you supposed to do about it "when the moment is right"?? far as having an erection lasting more than four hours, hubbie wonders what happens when you take two?

This Geico commercial is pretty new, and I thought it was kind of cute:

I think they're using the four hour statement as a selling point disguised as a warning. I don't care much for the "Smiling Bob" commercials either, especially the Christmas one where he's playing Santa and the perky little twit can't wait for her turn to sit on his lap. If that happened while I was being Santa, Mrs. Claus would beat her to death with one of those huge candy canes.

The "four hour" part has great comedic possibilities. For instance, does that mean one that lasts three and a half hours is just fine?

What happened to the Tasters Choice couple? I think they should update it to the present to see if they are still together. Look what they could do with those two now. The possibilities are endless.

That reminded me of the comic who said about the 4 hour thing:

"Call the doctor? Are you kidding? I'm calling every woman I know!"

I love the Cottonelle ones with the puppy!
Also, there is a Christmas one that shows babies sleeping with Silent Night playing. Then at the very end, you find out it is one for pampers.

I think my absolute all time favorite has to be the Super Bowl commercial about herding cats. It's several years old now but I still watch it every so often it's just so funny.

Those Viagra ones when you look online or even on commercials it says consult a physcian if your erection lasts longer than 4 hours. That just cracks me up picture a guy who after four hours is going to call for help, I mean come on!!!!

Forgot to say favorite. Love the car ads with all the surrealistic scenery made out of people.

Hat hate hate that annoying lipsticked person in those Progressive insurance store ads that show 300 times a day on every channel.

Sheri, this one's for you.

Oh...hands down it has to be the AT&T commercial with Meatloaf and his son and daughter....well for me at least!
Quite entertaining and must admit I am a diehard Meatloaf fan. If you haven't smiled your way through this commercial as's the time!

Penn - They ran that Staples commercial again this year. Makes me laugh all the time.

My all time favorite is an oldie - it was for Roy Rogers and ran about a month before school was starting up one year. It featured three mean-looking cafeteria workers, holding school lunches out to the kids. The basic idea was that they were going back to school soon, where they would have horrible meals, and so shouldn't you take your kids to Roy Rogers? It was a scream (especially if you worked in a school - you could really relate).

NYC Board of Education made such a stupid fuss over the ad that Roy Rogers finally pulled it.

I'm with Lodi on the E-trade baby commercials. My favorite is when he says, "It was on the cart path, Shankapotamus!"

The Budweiser frog and lizards a few years ago were pretty funny.

Remember the Alka Seltzer commercial many years ago with the stomach sitting on chair yelling at his body for the way he eats? That was a funny commercial also.
