THE REVERSE OF THE ARCHAIC EXPRESSION

What a great thread the "Archaic Expression" one is! Ok, all of you greybeards ... what does the younger generation say that makes you crazy?

I just had a meeting with a young woman who is finishing her Master's Degree. She is intelligent and well informed. However, whenever she wanted to change the subject or interject and idea, she would shout out, "PS!! Blah Blah Blah." (Not really blah blah blah ... insert relevant idea there.)

I guess she's saying PS as in Post Script. Her ideas were great, but her delivery drove me nuts.

Am I getting old and cranky?

I, like, am so, like, sick of people having to, like, use the word "like," like twenty times, like in a sentence.

My business law class drove me nuts because that's how most people answered questions from the Professor. How she prevented her herself from coming across the podium and choking the bejesus out of some of them, I'll never know.

"Y'know what I'm sayin'?" (repeated and repeated and REPEATED. YES, I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! JUST KEEP MOVING IT ALONG, PLEASE!!)

"It is what it is."

"Dude" (especially when applied to a female). Seriously, I am so not your dude...

Have I mentioned "It is what it is?"

Well, the foul words drive me up the wall for starters. I was near the middle school the other day when kids were walking home and they were yelling the most obscene things to one another.

Then I put in a vote for the, "like, you know,"

When they look at you, roll their eyes, as if they're searching for their pea-sized brain, and say, "Whatever..."

Among some 7-year-olds I know, "cool" appears to have been pre-empted by "sweet."

And before that, cool made a return in disguise, as "kewl."

It’s kinda like soooooo….”innit?” I also dislike the trend of the pseudo Australian accent questioning tone at the end of a sentence.
