It didn't occur to me that we were supposed to explain the pets names till I read the thread here this morning that listed all the explanations. So, here goes -

I've had some weird pets in my time, but some of them never had names. There was Clyde the skunk, who pretty much lived in my bathroom; there were the two flying squirrels (no names); there were assorted hamsters, snakes, cats and others. All in an apartment.

But, I decided that the pets on Sesame Street would be more fun. So, here's who they all were:

Dorothy - is Elmo's pet goldfish. She's an actual fish.

Slimey - is Oscar the Grouch's pet worm. He's a muppet, and has had some wonderful adventures. He's been to the moon. He's got his own song. Slimey rules. He even has a pet.

Dirty - is Slimey's pet bug. Slimey chose him from the Bug-A-Wee Shelter, and Dirty can write in the dirt and make both the letter and the number of the day. Clever bug!

Barkley - was Linda's huge friendly muppet dog. Now that Linda has departed Sesame Street, I think that Barkley is rarely on.

Cyrus - is an animated magpie and hangs out with Thelma Thumb. Thelma was the super-hero alter ego of Marcia Middlewell.

Rocco - is Zoe's pet rock. Next to Elmo, Zoe is my grandson's favorite. What can I say?

Fluffy - is Oscar the Grouch's pet elephant. He lives in that trash can with Oscar. Only his trunk has ever been shown.

Bernice - Everyone knows Bernice! If you don't, there's just no hope. Bernice is Bert's favorite pigeon.

Chucky - Who is actually spelled Chuckie (but that wouldn't fit the puzzle, so I took liberties) - Actually her name is Chuckie Sue. She's a live hamster who belongs to Telly Monster.

Little Murray Sparkles - is an ugly cat who is the pet of Elizabeth, a bilious green muppet.

There - someone wanted to know, I'm sure!

Thank you, Alice! The explanations were as fun to read as your puzzle was to take!
