Is your PC running slowly? Keeping your PC free of clutter can help performance and can also maximize valuable disk space. Here are a few simple tips for maintaining the performance of your PC.
Clear your Internet browser cache

your Internet browser automatically caches, or stores, all types of temporary files whenever you surf the Internet. Browsers such as Internet Explorer save copies of the Web pages you visit in order to load these pages faster the next time you visit those sites. Outside of speeding up browsing, however, your browser does not need this cache of temporary files in order to operate properly. Since many Web sites have large graphics, clearing out your browser's cache can save valuable hard disk space.
To clear your cache in Internet Explorer:
1. Click the Tools menu, then click Internet Options.

2. Select the General tab, then click Delete Files… in the Temporary Internet files section.

3. In the Delete Files dialog box that appears, select Delete all offline content, then click OK.

If it's the first time you've ever cleared your cache, or it's been a long while since you've dumped the cache and the file accumulation is large, deleting these files could take several minutes. Once the cache is cleared, click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.

Thanks Michelle for the tips, I have never done this before so it is taking my computer a few minutes to delete the files. Hopefully it will also delete the web sites that I stumbled into accidentally

I tried to defrag once and found out my computer does it itself. Did I do it correctly; or are there hard drives with this function?

Mitchy, you are the best to tell us how to do this. My computer has been running much better since you walked me through it some time ago. I may not remember to delete the junk every day, but several times a week anyway.

First of all, I ignored this thread for 2 days because I thought it said "TURN" instead of "TUNE".

I'm so glad my eyes started focusing a bit better - this is great stuff!!!!!

I have found this program really helpful in speeding up your computer and it's free. Some of you may already use it or have heard of it. It will show you how much disk space you recover each time you run the scan.
