There seems to be as much chaos now as last week. I still have an open SHOWDOWN which finished over a week ago, and no SHOWDOWN Token for this week. How about making SHOWDOWN's fair, as well.

I have four showdowns hanging out there somewhere, and filed a support ticket to see how progress was going. Apparently it's on the agenda. Give it a couple more days and file a support ticket.
Good Luck and have a great day!

I don't use many showdown tokens but this would seem to be a major problem for some players.

Is anyone else receiving messages? I haven't had a message in my inbox for several days Word Puzzle results, nothing from other players, etc.

I've received personal messages, but have not received any system messages about standings at the end of a Word Puzzle. I'd love to know what place I've come in on each word puzzle, but they aren't happening.

Yeah, I just tested out the Personal Messages with a fellow Sploofuser, and it works fine.

The problem is the system Personal Messages, specficially WP Results and Showdown tokens.

I'm still getting timeouts too. I got timed out trying to log in, and again going from TQOTD back to My Sploofus. It's better than last week, but it ain't fixed yet.

Some slow and partial page loads, a few network timeouts, a missing token and half a billion in hung-up showdown points, but otherwise, humming right along.

Yep, the system freezing is better but not fixed. I kind of went wild this last weekend taking quizes--I had been avoiding them because of the recent system problems. Had fun for awhile flying through them, but then started experiencing several frozen screens on various random questions. Quizes that should have taken 100 seconds took 200 seconds.

Again, Justin, we appreciate all of the hard work you put in last week, especially considering your difficult personal situation. But you had asked to keep you posted on how the fix went, and the problems you see in this thread still linger.

Showdowns are back in service. I just got two tokens.

However, I won two Showdowns that were just settled, but I only got the points for one.

Alice, I received a system message regarding Word Puzzle results tonight for the first time in a while. Hope you do the same. Looks like Justin has been hard at work. Thanks Justin.

Yep, WP results and bonus points are back! Yippee! Thanks, Justin.

Any thought to resetting the October WP leaderboard back to 0 for everyone since the first half of the month was so messed up?

Yup, got that too. It was really great to see that. Very glad that the site is coming back to normal.

Justin, I agree with Dave. It seems that would be the only fair way to fix the situation. Anne

Why's it fair to ignore whatever happened on October 1 and deny that it happened?

Despite the overall improvement, I am still getting slow loads while taking quizzes and several times today I had to re-load pages. Got the odd formatting several times, as well. So while it's better, it's not 100% yet.

Love you, Justin!!

Ken, because folks lost lots of bonus points they earned over a period of several days. And because some folks (Anne, for example) lost 5000 points when data was lost on the first day of the whole mess.

I'm currently in the lead, and I can tell you I'd much rather it be erased. The current totals mean very little--I have no idea of whether I really earned my lead, or whether Anne, Gary, or anybody else should really be in the lead now. The results of games for over a week were not taken into account on the board.

Ken, I know you like being a contrarian, but this is like grandma telling the kids who lost their whiffleball in the middle of a tied game that there wouldn't be a problem if they hadn't kept score.

Collioure  (Level: 115.6 - Posts: 9952)

Yes, it appears that about two weeks of bonus points are lost.

My showdown tokens have been updated and I have received my WP result for the first in a while.

Kaufman  (Level: 270.4 - Posts: 3942)

But you're saying start keep scoring now and ignore the innings that were played earlier, even the one or two that may have been played cleanly before the trouble started.

I'm just suggesting that whatever went wrong, it was mostly a level playing field, and turning back the clock would fail to reward those who did well during that stretch.

Not that I have any vested interest in this; I don't think I'm among them. I just have a natural distaste for denying the past.

Bigbird  (Level: 250.7 - Posts: 3356)

There's a whole lot of my past that I'd like to deny...

Ken, I think I finally get your point: you're saying retain the scores from early in the month before the server upgrade problems, right? You'd only toss scoring from those games during the problem period. If you assume that the games with no bonus points are just a wash, then the only game where you have to toss scores is the one where data was lost (on the first day of the server upgrade).

Yes, you're absolutely right, that makes sense. I'm just wondering if that would be tricky for Justin to reconstruct the leaderboard with that sort of detail (as opposed to just zeroing the thing out). Actually, I'm wondering whether this conversation is even worth our time since it's highly unlikely that Justin will mess with the leaderboard at all.

I noticed this a few months ago, but didn't feel a need to
mention it. I will now.

I stopped playing the WP for the month because of the
disruption. I played all of the October puzzles until then,
but none since.

However, I am still ranked 166 for the month. What that
tells me is that there are very few hardcore WP players
who bother to "compete" in the standings.

Daveguth  (Level: 269.7 - Posts: 1636)
Fri, 16th Oct '09 11:46 AM

You're correct, Foogs, there aren't a lot of folks competing for the WP lead. I'm guessing there are less than 20 who are really trying to meke the monthly top 10. If you count the folks who don't seem to be in a huge hurry when they take it, and really compete for the top spot, there may be less than 10.

That doesn't mean, of course, that there aren't many folks who enjoy the individual games, and play often or seldom--as time permits.

I think I was awarded Anne/Virtus 5000 points by error.
Got credit for two 5000 point w.p's for same game recently. Sent in a support ticket to rectify.

This month's w.p. leader board is messed up. Glitches still are occurring.
I have not gotten my bonus points for the two puzzles played October 16 so that system is sill shaky.
My birthday message from yesterday?- I feel like Samantha Baker [Molly Ringwald] from Sixteen Candles.

I still get the odd looking format. I have had a lot of quizzes freeze up and lost internet connectivity. It is better but still not 100%. The favorites page on quizzes is still missing. When quizzes freeze before you can finish it is really frustrating.

Yeah, Al.

I was wondering how you jumped up there.

Now I'm wondering how you could impersonate Anne.

Al, I just assumed that was another birthday present from Sploofus We'll just keep on having fun, and maybe by November the whole system will be working again. Anne

What is up with this site? This has been going on for eons and umpteenth fixes have been put into place and then everyone says thanks Justin. Justin should be thanking us for staying on a site that doesn't work half the time. And the clincher is we pay for it too. I think we all have a screw loose. It's just the darn site is like an addiction and we are the junkies.

I just renewed my gold membership. I look at this as a hobby site. No one is making a ton of money and lots of people (editors) are donating time to make it run smoother. The improvements seem to come at a cost of frustration when the site goes down and everything is wacky. When I consider how much better the site is now than a few years ago I feel the pain has been worth it.

Sometimes I take a break from Sploofus and spend my time on other interests. At one time I was a Sploofus fanatic now it occupies much less of my time. Despite my decreasing visits it is still worth the money I pay.

My only hope is that Justin continues his commitment to the site. It is extremely difficult being a one man operation.

So what happens when Justin decides it is no longer fun to run Sploofus? Can he exit and Sploofus remain operational under with someone else in control?

I think it will depend on the profitability of site. Let's face it unless he can make a buck from the site he will have to do something else for money. If he subsidizes the site with ads, that will deter people from being a paying member. He has a balancing act and I am sure he is deliberating his options every time the site malfunctions. It can't be easy any way you look at it.

I haven't really noticed a lot of glitches lately. Just a couple waiting for sploofus messages in the middle of quizzes. Its working way better for me but I haven't been playing much either.

I like to view the top 10 kerblunks and trivia quizzes and have not been able to for over a week. I left on vacation and come back to the same rigmarole. I used to be a fanatic also but it is slowly dwindling. Used to author a ton of kerblunks but that has gone to the wayside.
