THE REIGN OF TERRY IS OVER!

I held “Word Puzzle Nation” hostage for a full twelve hours. At 8 pm Eastern time, that mercifully came to an end. Many thanks to all for your comments about my latest but not greatest word puzzle. I’m afraid I can see rather clearly how horribly specific this one was. (You should have seen the first draft!) Would have been better to use it on an all baseball trivia website…or just make a quiz or kerblunk out of it as Dave suggested. Sorry that my learning curve about this sort of thing caused others so much grief.
You’ll be happy to learn that I have suspended the other word puzzles I am working on…

You're a pip, and your Word Puzzle was just fine!

As a diehard fan I wouldn't mind any of those!

First of all, those five "other word puzzles" are hilarious! Huge LOL!

Second, I think Barry and I may have overestimated the difficulties folks might have with your WP. Your reviews were fairly positive, and several non-baseball fans (especially Virtus) did just fine on it.

Third, we baseball fans had a lot of fun with it--perhaps more fun than usual. It's nice to see the combination "xxxe xxn" and immediately know that means "home run"!

So don't let it get down! Come back with another WP real soon! I vote for the Seatle Mariners!

In fact, do a WP on "Topics Too Narrow for WPs". That would be a scream!

Terry, I hope you're not really feeling bad because I enjoyed your word puzzle!

And yeah, Lyn, that's a great idea for a WP!!

Terry, I only know about baseball from high school P. E. classes. Your wording choices were straightforward and helped hide my ignorance. Google is a great friend.

The other topics. . .not so sure. LOL

Hey, it was a link to a hilarious quiz about the hapless Chicago Cubs that brought me to Sploofus, but GIANTS VS REDS, AUGUST 23, 1988…THE FIFTH INNING could be interesting.

No it wouldn't. On August 23, 1988 the Giants lost 2-1 to the Expos and the Reds lost 2-0 at Pittsburgh. They didn't play each other.

The Net is wonderful but the Reds aren't.

That would explain why Pete Rose lost a $20,000 bet that day...he picked the Reds to beat the Giants.

Wait, wait, wait

"No it wouldn't. On August 23, 1988 the Giants lost 2-1 to the Expos and the Reds lost 2-0 at Pittsburgh. They didn't play each other."

The Pirates WON a game?????? No way!

It really happens, Martina.

The Reds touched down a little south of the Pirates once in the second half but got it together, swept the Prospects in a 4-game series and finished 4th.

Remember, the Reds were only two years from a championship run and the Pirates were just a hair further than that from being within one out of reaching the World Series.
