This week someone challenged me to three showdowns. We had a draw on one (both got it wrong), and I won the other two. So far, so good (at least for me!).

This evening I returned home to this lovely note:

"congrats. but at the same time it would be nice if you challenged other players once in a while instead of sitting there and never risk anything. I'm done challenging players. I'll just wait until they challenge me so that I never lose any more points just like you do. Congrats anyway! "

Granted, I have had a really, really crappy week, and today has completely topped it off, but I found this note to be both rude and wholly lacking in good sportsmanship. For the record, as I told this player (and sent him a copy of the list to prove it), I have challenged SIXTY-THREE people to showdowns in my time on Planet Sploofus and have only been challenged by others eight times. So, I don't think I could be considered cowardly or a mooch or whatever the heck else this guy was implying. It just really annoys me that he (or anyone) would pull a hissy fit because I had the temerity to answer questions faster than he did. And it's not like the points even count for anything!

OK, that actually made me feel a wee bit better.

Thanks for listening.

Oh wait, maybe I'm not feeling all that much better. This guy really added to a difficult time. Crap, I just went from 0 to 60 again! I think I'd better pour some vino STAT

He's just a sore loser. It's his problem, not yours. Your crappy week should be brightened by the two showdown wins!

Good going!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have helped tremendously. It was too late in the evening to call me sister (who would have said just that), and I really appreciate the support The ole blood pressure is beginning to head back to normal(ish) levels

Bobo you are too funny, girl friend loved your very artfully crafted comment. Yes, they are sore losers and it's pathetic some of they know not. Asor, you're a winner. Get the vino and celebrate it's the weekend.

Asor, good luck in your future showdowns. Look at it this way, now that you've won, you won't be near him on the leaderboards and maybe you won't have to deal with him again.

I must admit to being a bit of a wimp when it comes to Showdowns: 197 tokens is a testament to that!
However, I do stage the occasional challenge when I think I have a better'n fair chance of a win.....which is not often!!

Whether or not I win or lose, I try to send a congratulatory or consoling PM to the other party. It makes far-better relations with the community, and helps a person thru the loss if they failed to win the Showdown.

Importantly: no-one loses if everyone is courteous and takes a win or a loss in good spirit.

I hope your next Showdown brings a smile to your face, whether from a win, or from a friendly PM of consolation afterward.

Asor,I wouldn't let it get my blood pressure up. it isn't worth it,you won. So he's a sore loser, who cares. Congrats on your win!

Congrats on your wins! The other player obviously doesn't understand that you don't have any control over your choice of opponent - that it has to be the person right above you. Well, tata to him. He is presumably no longer above you. I'm a total showdown chicken - but more power to ya. Don't be upset; just celebrate.

I'm worse than Alice. I just totally ignore the fact that I have any tokens-never challenge. Good for you, Asor, on the wins

Sounds like your challenger had a crappy week too?

My director always said, if you can't stand to lose, don't challenge.

To me, that's just a weird thing that anyone would write someone that beat them, castigating them for their choice of how to use the Sploofus games. But when you have 50,000 members, there is bound to be an "interesting" person here or there. You just happened to hit the "interesting" lottery that time.

Hopefully, it will never happen again to you. And maybe others will learn from what you posted here.

Thank you, everyone. There are so many kind and supportive people on Sploofus. That more than makes up for the occasional "interesting" one

Loved the rattle and pram comment! I was truly surprised to discover the malcontent is in his 50s! Pity the po' woman...

I appreciate all the kind words. The sun is shining. Today will be a better day!

As far as I can paid for your subscription to this site and can play your points or tokens any way you want. Being a sore sport is their problem, not yours. Good for you kicking their rude butt!

You are a winner twice over. 1. You won 2. When you don't win, your not a sore loser.
I don't like sore losers, so just say Na Na Na Naaaaaaaaaa Naaaaaaaaaa back to him!

I aso am a chicken and have all of my wager tokens, but the main reason is because I am using a webtv instead of a computer which makes me slower than most, and BOBO no one was more surprised than me when i beat you the other day. I have managed to win a few but it is usually because the other person didn't answer corectly. But as far as the person being ugly to you that is his or her problem if they keep making the challenge then they should expect that they are going to get beat once in a while. And like i always say i play for my own relaxation and enjoyment and those points are nice for oh i forgot, nothing. So play on and enjoy and don't worry about the sore loser. charlotte

Congrats on you wins Asor. i agree with everyone else.. ignore the complainer.. he has issues and you aren't responsible for fixing his problems..

i am the proud owner of 222 showdown tokens.. i challenged my fair share in the old days when the challenger could choose the category of the question used in the showdowns. Justin promised to allow this again in the 2.0 version... but alas it hasn't come to pass. i will not risk points blindly.. if anyone has a problem with me over it.. oh well..

I've had that experience with someone in the top ten. I gather from side-conversations I was not the only one to have that response from this person.
Curious how people dont 'get' the idea that if you play you should expect to be challenged; yes one person may have a fast computer and beat you because of that -- but when Weyoun destroys me with a 2.5 second showdown what am I gonna do? Ask him to turn in his brain-cells before challenging me?

You know - the more I think about it...

I think this person is a sports psychologist trying to psyche you out so you start losing because of self doubt.

Well, he's certainly gotten my Irish up, but I'm thinking that'll help my concentration

I can hardly bear to imagine the stress of placing a challenge when one's in the top 10. I'd be undone!

Windancer you deserved to win you beat me fair and square and I was challenging you. Hey we all have to set an example and be good losers as well as gracious winners.
