DABVEGUTHS SONGS FOR MY PET

Great puzzle Dave! I'm sure your pet is pampered.
Nice selection of examples for the clues used.

I messed up the spelling on one name and it cost me, but that's why you check and double check I suppose.

Sorry I didn't see this, although I did look. Started another thread on this, but just in case, will post here as well that I enjoyed this ingenious twist on the pet theme, even with the sloppy mistakes I made.

Very clever, Mr Guth.

I had an idea about the theme but never revisited the thought until the last word of phrase #5.

Excellent, excellent WP, Dave! I thought this was really creative and superbly designed. I'm looking forward to seeing all of the phrases once the WP is over. Fun, fun -- thanks!

Hi All,

Thanks for the praise! This was a fun one to write just because it was "about" one of my favorite subjects--our sweet Golden Retriever, Annie. And now a few folks are encouraging me to talk about Annie, so I have license to brag! (By the way, I tried several times to upload a picture of Annie, but no success. Is that another victim of the recent "upgrade," or is there a secret I don't know?)

Our nine year old Annie is, as my wife likes to say, "a dog of a lifetime," i.e., we'll likely never be this lucky again. We got her from a very reputable breeder--about half of her litter mates ended up as show dogs, and Annie was one of the "rejects." This is, of course, a misnomer--she looks perfect to anyone not in the profession, and she has the very sweet and calm demeanor of a show dog. (Her "sit" is a regal, head-held-high position that even makes strangers say, "She's so beatiful!") Goldens are by nature sweet and highly trainable, but Annie seems to have been born with an extra dose of those qualities. Add to that the fact that my wife is an absolutely amazing trainer (who only uses positive reinforcement), Annie is, well, perfect. She is our constant companion, and, yes, even sleeps on our bed. (She quite politiely goes to her corner of the bed and ignores any frisky behavior!)

I also had a request to list the complete set of answers, so here goes:

Kung Fu Fighting kung fu panda won last years annie award for best animated feature
Who’s That Girl annie lennox of the eurythmics played a male and female in this songs video
The Cover of the Rolling Stone annie lebovitz is famous for photos of celebrities on magazine covers
Anything You Can Do irving berlins musical annie get your gun is about sharpshooter annie oakley
It’s the Hard Knock Life the musical annie was based on harold grays comic strip little orphan annie
Georgia on My Mind designing women which takes place in atlanta starred annie potts
The Sound of Silence the film annie hall has very little music but it does feature paul simon
Soul of the Sea this song was featured on hearts debut album called dreamboat annie
Love Ain’t No Triple Play baseball groupie annie savoy is in a love triangle in the film bull durham
The Cowboy’s Lament the movie brokeback mountain was based on a short story by annie proulx

Thanks all,
Dabve

Didn't realize the tabs would disappear so let me try the list of answers again:

"Kung Fu Fighting" -- kung fu panda won last years annie award for best animated feature
"Who’s That Girl" -- annie lennox of the eurythmics played a male and female in this songs video
"The Cover of the Rolling Stone" -- annie lebovitz is famous for photos of celebrities on magazine covers
"Anything You Can Do" -- irving berlins musical annie get your gun is about sharpshooter annie oakley
"It’s the Hard Knock Life" -- the musical annie was based on harold grays comic strip little orphan annie
"Georgia on My Mind" -- designing women which takes place in atlanta starred annie potts
"The Sound of Silence" -- the film annie hall has very little music but it does feature paul simon
"Soul of the Sea" -- this song was featured on hearts debut album called dreamboat annie
"Love Ain’t No Triple Play" -- baseball groupie annie savoy is in a love triangle in the film bull durham
"The Cowboy’s Lament" -- the movie brokeback mountain was based on a short story by annie proulx

Also, excuse my misspelling of "beautiful" ("beatiful") in the description of Annie.

Dave as you know, I loved this puzzle. I hope you can get a picture of Annie loaded in your profile, I would love to see her. I have only been able to load to Sploofus using Mozilla Firefox.

Sorry to have missed it, Dave! I'd also love to see a picture of Annie. Like Cindy, I've found I can only upload pictures in Firefox! (Also check that the picture is within the size limit for Sploofus).

Dave, thanks for taking the time out to write about Annie, she sounds very special. I felt like I was paying tribute to my pets when I strolled down memory lane and recalled many of them. Pets are wonderful. So far in my life I've never been without one and wouldn't have it any other way. Studies actually show that people who have pets live longer. My dog, Mandy, a border collie is an excellent listener. Hope you can get a picture up.
