SHOWDOWN CHALLENGERS! WHERE ARE YOU?

It seems that, although I have been in the system for about 7 mos, only 2 people placed challenges against me, while I do that all the time when I have a chance. Is it just probability ( I do not know the statistics that well) ?
Can something be done to increase the interactive relationship among the players in the form of showdowns or any other form. Maybe a team competition?
Thank you.

Only the person directly below you can challenge you. Conversely, you can challenge ONLY the person directly above you!
Make sure you check out that person's answering speed and showdown success-rate before challenging them, though!

Because it sucks to lose showdowns.

And it pays to win them. My stats: 27 challenges offered, 6 received.

Thank you. My stat is, by the way, 25 challenges, and only 2 defence.

Maybe some of the showdowns should be mandatory, lets say once a month you need to chalenge someone else.
What do you do with all the tokens if you don't use them? Can you exchange them for something else?

I have two years' worth of Showdowns saved up.
'Cos my computer's still steam-driven, and the current scoring system seems to rack up about 15 seconds even for an instant answer.
I don't stand a chance!
I progress through Wagers, since my 3-second answer has a chance to record before the 30 seconds are up!
If Sploofus can amend the system to react properly to non-Broadband systems, I'll be in there with the rest of ye!

I know what you mean. I have very fast cable, yet when someone challenges me to a showdown, I will hit the submit button, and watch the time counter just keep dropping for several seconds. Its horrifying. I have lost several showdowns, not because I guessed incorrectly, but because the other person's time was faster than mine. Perhaps if I switched to the web browser everyone is currently discussing, I might now have that problem?

44 showdowns - 31 challanges and 13 received, find the time thing a real pain too - I'll answer within 2 secs. of the question coming up but it always seems to be an age for the question to appear....

I'll repeat the same old refrain; Showdowns should not be a matter of time. If both people get it right, it should go to a second question, or more, if necessary. There are too many differences in servers and connections for it to be fair the way it is. The person who gets the question RIGHT is the one who should be the winner. Period. I also happen to think it would make the whole process more interesting.

That's a great idea Diane! But I still think there should be a time limit on each question or the contest could go on forever due to googling.

I have challenged someone else 89 times; and I have been challenged 39 times

31 stalemates
44 losses (longest losing streak was 6 in a row - oddly enough my longest winning steak was also 6 in a row!)

Yesterday I got blown out of the water, even though I got the answer right, because geniuswaitress answered in 3.51 seconds! So the next challenge I tried to be fast and only SKIMMED instead of reading the whole question...and I answered the wrong thing! Haven't seen the defender's response yet though!

Is it obvious that I love showdowns???

I am just curious. Has the showdown system always been as it is now? I have challenged and been challenged, and I find it a fun part of the site.

I just thought a nice twist would be to allow you to challenge the person two above you at the cost of two tokens, three above you with three tokens, etc. May not be as fair, but it would be interesting.

Can someone please explain how the showdown tokens work, I really don't know what they are for?

Joanne...here's the way they work for me.

I initiate a "showdown"...I get some question about "How many stars are visible from the top of Mt. Everest on Sundays during the vernal equinox after 11:00 pm when the cloud cover is 15 - 20%?".

When I hit enter...the timer keeps going down, double check the blue bar thing to make sure I have hit enter...keeps going...some 1 1/2 hours later the thing pops up and tells me I'm an idiot. The person I challenged will be notified of the showdown. They will get it right and I will lose point.

That's just my own personal experience. Others may differ.

Jo -
You get one token every week, and you can challenge one person per day.

To play, just go to your command center and click on showdowns, and 'stage a showdown'. A message will come up telling you who you will be challenging, (it is always the person directly above you on the leaderboard), and how many points you could win or lose. If you win, you win an amount equal to 10% of their points, but the challengee doesn't lose any points. If you lose, you lose 10% of your points to the other person.
(You can click on 'stage a showdown' just to check out this info, and then still back out.)

The questions are trivia-question-of-the-day style. After you answer, the other person will get a notice saying they've been challenged, and they'll have 7 days to respond. If they don't, you automatically win. If you both get the question right, whoever answered faster wins. If you both get it wrong, nobody wins or loses any points.

I think that's everything...

You forgot the hyperventilating, heart racing, sleepless nights, and either the reaction of "YAHOO! THIS GAME ROCKS AND SO DO I!!!" or "I'M STUPID AND I HATE THIS STUPID GAME!" followed by a couple of days of wallowing in self pity.

Maybe I overreact?

Yep, you two, I agree totally.
Take out the speed, retaining a max time to stop Googling.
Perfik!
Then in I'd come with with my bank of over 100 tokens!!

Proud holder of 79 Showdown tokens here. I've challenged maybe 5-6 times since joining Sploofus. I've been challenged many times but I just don't like how 'twisty' it makes me feel inside. I wish there were alternatives and I like LinenLady's idea much better than the current system.

Lodi, of course I meant that all questions come with the same 30 second limit. It never occurred to me to mention it. My reference was to those who answer the question correctly in, for instance, 14.56 seconds and lose to the person who answered in 12.04.

Everytime I get a message of a Showdown Challenge from fellow Sploofusers...I can't stop feeling like I am having a heart attack. Too excited? Nah...maybe...It's the adrenaline. It's great to win a showdown but totally sucks losing especially when you know you got the right answer but the challenger wins because of her/his speed. Arggghhhh!!! I should probably try bungee jumping!!!

I have challenged 18 and had 5 challenges on me. I only get one show down token a week and i am now on my 19th week so I always use them.
I am hoping though that the higher on the leaderboard you get the more people will challenge you, just for a laugh.

If the person below me is reading this feel free to challenge me, im thick you will probably win. lol

My last 7 tokens: 4 win, 2 loss, 1 stalemate.

I have none left, Where can I get any additional?

How about borrowing from Surreyman?

I am all for a win, lose, or draw without the time being a factor! I also seldom use my showdown tokens because of the time factor.
