On Facebook, Lorri Nevil (who I really miss here at Sploofus) posted: "Every day this month until Thanksgiving, think of 1 thing that you are thankful for" and post it.

I thought that was a great idea?

What are you grateful for this year?

I am grateful that my daughter-in-law's surgery in September was successful and she got to ride her horse again yesterday. I'm also grateful that my son's surgery this past Friday went well and he is not in much pain from it.

My husband has melanoma. He has had it since 1999. He has benign and precancerous growths removed from his arms, neck, back and head often. He had a particularly alarming growth removed from his back that we just found out is not melanoma but squamous cell and precancerous. A sigh of relief for us! He's had two lung operations that were melanoma in the last ten years as well. The oncologist is our best friend as are the tests that are done three times a year to make sure new growths haven't started.

Stay out of the sun, my friends. Should you bask in its warmth, wear sunblock-not 15, not 30. Start with 50 and go up from there. Reapply it as directed. And for crying out loud, don't "start" on your tan using a tanning bed! It's a death machine.
Look for titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in the ingredients. They are pure and block the sun well.

So, yes, I'm thankful. I hope to spend many more years with the light of my life. Hope you're not finding me too corny tonight...

What's not to love about your statement Maureen. No corny that I can see. I wish many, many more wonderful years together for the two of you.

And thanks for the reminder to everyone about the sun and the use of sunblock.

You lnow I feel like an idiot when little things like when the computer freezes up or I know i got to drive in the LA traffic, or when a check doesn't come on time, or when the Sox lose, and then I see people in a wheelchair, or have lost a limb, I don't realize how good I have it. I have my health, my family, a roof over my head, have been to almost every major city in this great country, and have some really great froends on this network. There is always someone else who has it worse than me. Love to all of you, Craig

I'm thankful to the staff at the lab for being so supportive during apheresis.
Blood is taken out of my right arm, goes through a machine to separate the peripheral blood forming cells for my transplant, then the remaining blood goes in my left arm.
The staff has been so wonderful and very cheerful, too It's nice to be with people that like their job and aren't 'put out" that they have to do this for me.
I even get a sticker that says "Good Girl"! I have 3 so far and they will be in my "memories" library of albums.

Hahaha - Laurie! I'm almost grateful that the lab people who handled me last time I did a pheresis told me never to come back!

But for #11, I, too, am so very grateful for the decades of military personnel who left the comforts and security of home and family to step out and put their lives on the line because of that love for family and country, just to protect America and Americans, to keep us safe - every year, every day.

And not only protecting America, but protecting those in other countries, helping keep them safe, rebuilding schools and hospitals.

Their sacrifice is a gift I've done nothing to deserve, but I surely do appreciate it with all my heart.

I love what C.S. Lewis said about prayer:

"Prayer doesn't change God. It changes me."

Prayer can't change God - it is already the Father's will to save, to cleanse, to heal, to solve problems, and to restore us to full fellowship with Him.

I believe our prayers invite and release God to do His will, to use His power to heal and to solve problems and to draw us to His heart. No matter how much WE desire those things for others and for ourselves, our desire is but a shadow of God's will to provide all we need.

So, I'll go a day ahead of schedule and make that my Day #14 expression of thanks. I am so grateful for God's salvation, love, protection and provision every single day of my life. I'm so grateful God is more than just Creator, but also is a loving and generous Father.

AWWWWWWWWWW I'm especially thankful now that I have read some of your posts. What in the world would I do with out my sploofus friends? It's not like I can go out bowling, skating, etc. anymore. I have a much better time with all of you than I ever did doing those things. You all inspire me to be happy because you are such wonderful people, how can one not be happy to know all of you? I'm no one special, just a goof ball that happens to love having fun, making others smile, and especially laugh at myself for some of the goofy things I do sometimes, such as going to get my hair done a week earlier than my appointment on the 18th. I went on the 11th! My hair dresser was surprised to see me, but luckily someone canceled and she did my hair! LOL

I'm also thankful that my bed is no longer my best friend for the entire day, as I feel much better.

Another thing I am very thankful for is that one of my friends was feeling very down about things. I talked with her for over two hours on the phone, the last 45 minutes or so laughing with her. She needed a shoulder to cry on but all I could give her was a phone call. She is feeling much better now.

"A Reason A Season and A Lifetime" © author unknown.

People always come into you life for a REASON, a SEASON and/or a LIFETIME. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, or to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally,
or even spiritually. They may seem like a Godsend to you, and maybe they are, but they are there for a reason. You need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die...sometimes they just walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done and it is now time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They may bring
you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season. And like Spring turns to Summer and Summer to Fall, the season eventually ends.

LIFETIME relationships teach you a lifetime of lessons; those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway); and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas in your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being part of my life....

I am thankful for everyone who has been in my life, for a reason, a season and in my lifetime.

That reminded me of a good choice for my Day 15.

I'm very, very grateful to discover a fuel injector cleaner by Lucas that twice has worked magic in my car. Twice, my "check engine soon" light has come on and stayed on for several days, making me very nervous and wondering how to pay for fixing it. The diagnostic test is almost $100 alone, and whatever needs repaired is above that.

But both times, after adding this Lucas stuff, the light went off within minutes. It's like a miracle in a bottle. (And when you drive 3 hours a day to and from work, it's not like you can hop a bus to get to work. Plus, there's a lot of country between school and me where being stranded would be a nightmare.)

Thanks on Day 16. I have lots of good friends, but I have two best friends I've had for decades. They've seen me through thick and thin and good and bad, and no matter what, they've both been there for me. One is my adult son, who is my very best friend since he became an adult. Second is Mary, whose sons grew up with my son and all 3 of them call both of us "Mom." My life is so much richer and more blessed and more beautiful and more fun because of both of them. Both of them are nothing short of miracles from God in my life.

Day 18. I'm so grateful this school year is immeasurably better than last year, since I know the procedures and how to do the paperwork and the HS finally has me in the grading system online. I'm grateful for some really excited and competitive 6th grade beginners who are loving learning to play their orchestra instrument and are advancing so quickly!

Today I am grateful that I finally got my cast off, even though I feel like I'm missing a leg now. LOL
I'm especially grateful to have made my son, a very happy man. I gave him the new Impala that I bought so my leg would fit to get around.
I missed my little Cavalier.
Danny turns 25 next week and I said Happy Birthday, Danny and gave him the keys with a nice gold key chain with Daniel engraved on it.
I think he likes the key chain more than the car! LOL

What am i grateful for today ? Reminds me of a "song". Apologies to C. F. Alexander

All things dull and ugly,
all creatures short and squat.
All things rude and nasty,
the Lord God made the lot.

Each little snake that poisons,
each little wasp that stings.
He made their brutish venom,
he made their horrid wings.

All things sick and cancerous
All evil great and small.
All things foul and dangerous,
the Lord God made them all.

Each nasty little hornet,
each beastly little squid,
Who made the spiny urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did!!

All things scabbed and ulcerous,
all pox both great and small.
Putrid foul and gangrenous,
the Lord God made them all.

So, CC, I'm confused. Are you thankful for all those things you listed or are you grateful for the song itself????

You could be doubly grateful you didn't hear me singing it.

I found the song amusing, and i thought some others might. That is far as i delved into the psychological ramifications of posting it. No choir boys were damaged in my actions. Oh that all institutions could claim that eh ?

18. I'm thankful for my car, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, that still runs like a dream and is pretty, too! Best car I've ever had (not that I've had many...)

19. I'm thankful that 2 of my 3 nieces get to come for Thanksgiving! Haven't seen them in a while.

Today I am thankful that it didn't take much time at all, for the hospital that caused my bacteremia to offer an acceptable settlement.
These cases usually take forever, so I'll have to say, Thank God, it's over.

Day 20. A day of mixed sadness and thankfulness for my family. Today my son found out his beloved Rottweiler, Bull (who was named tough but was really just a big, sweet baby) had cancer. Today, he had to put him down because of his pain and age. My son knew this day was coming and he knew that the family would know when it was time. My DIL is a vet tech, and she suspected the final problem.

But my and my son's thankfulness is for the 11 years of fun and happy life Bull experienced with this family. He had been abandoned before my son rescued him 11 years ago, and they were the best of friends. Bull had an extremely happy dog life on the ranch because of my very gentle giant son. (And he's not just a giant because of his height.)

My favorite Bull story is from the time my son was being discharged from the Marines. He brought Bull and stayed at my house for a couple of days while attending to business locally. While my son had to leave for awhile, he put Bull in the bedroom since Bull didn't know me well yet.

I was in the livingroom and suddenly heard a horribly loud POP!!!

I immediately thought I knew what had happened, but I had to open the bedroom door to make sure Bull was ok.

Sure enough - I saw the most puzzled look on a dog's face I'd ever seen. There was Bull, standing up in the middle of the bed - a waterbed! It was the most priceless moment. (Where's a camera when you need one fast?)

I'll never forget the look on that dog's face. It was worth the price of the waterbed mattress - it was literally a "fall in the floor laughing" moment.

I have no clue why we lost power a few minutes ago but I am ever so thankful I bought a gas powered generator. Plus I'm thankful that I was smart enough to get 3- 5 gallon gan cans filled when I bought the generator. LOL

I'm thankful that I can see my grand babies anytime I want now that they live within a 2 minute drive.
Danny, Peggy, Logan and Tony are grateful for the generator too. They are all watching The Wizard of Oz for the 50th time, while Isabelle is sitting here next to me in her swing.
What more can I ever ask for?

Oh oh oh. Day #21. I am so grateful for this glorious day. Family came over and grandson had his arms open wide, yelling Gramma's house! Apparently he was really glad to see my house! (haha - jk). He discovered my deck - we all realized it will be his fort someday. He insisted on a broom to sweep away leaves!

There's not much freakier than a 23 month old who speaks in full sentences.

My cup truly runneth over on this 21st day of gratitude expressed.

Day 20 - I am grateful for this thread where we are sharing what is important to us. Thank you for starting it, Jank.

Day 21 - I am thankful for humor, the ability to laugh. Thanks to CC and Smaug for their posts, which gave me a good laugh, even though I'm not sure Smaug's was intended to be funny. I'm thankful CC it wasn't your funeral too, and Smaug, I'm glad you didn't carry out what was surely in your mind at times.

Today I am thankful that in 14 years of having my dog, I have not had to suffer the guilt or pain with him turning up missing.
I am also thankful that my cat is affraid to so much as step out the door. It does break my heart though when I have to take her out for her yearly shots.

Day #22. I am so grateful for the ability to send notes/letters immediately on the internet, rather than 3-plus days in the mail. I'm grateful for chat and IMs so communication is instantaneous. I'm grateful my best friend and I found online Rummikubs, a game she taught me how to play years ago, which we only got to play twice a year when we visited across the miles. Now, we can play every day if we choose! How amazing is the internet!

Today I am thankful to have called a friend that made me laugh for hours. The chatting to a voice was also nice, even though she forgot about the eggs boiling on the stove. I wish I could have gone to her house to help her clean up the exploded egg mess. With the exception of that, I think we both hand a grand afternoon.
Thank you, my friend. xoxoxo

Day 23:

I'm blown away by the kindness of my neighbor across the street. He LOVES to mow and his place is gorgeous. He very graciously, without even telling me, mowed my empty lot! (I think he had noticed that I had been hobbling a bit since twisting my knee moving instruments for a concert).

I'm very grateful to live in a state with such kind and giving, yet ruggedly independent, people.

Today I am especially thankful that I can rest anytime I want, without having to worry about working, finances, or doing all the things that raising kids require. I'm thankful my kids are grown and successful. I am especially thankful they are grown to give me my grand babies that come and lye down with me to cuddle.

I'm so grateful for the invention of E-cards. With just a little searching around, it's so easy to brighten someone's day with a card within minutes while sipping coffee from home. It's always so sweet to receive a card from someone, just letting you know they're thinking of you.

Oops! I've missed a few. I'll catch up...

21. I'm thankful for my "office" that I got to create from my daughter's bedroom after she moved. It is so nice to have my own space!!
22. I'm thankful that after 14 1/2 years of marriage, hubby and I are still crazy about one another.
23. I'm thankful for Sploofus. This place has been my sanctuary for 2 years now and I would be lost without it.
24. I'm especially thankful that my daughter and future son-in-law are coming home in December and will be here for a month!!!!!

I've gotten behind too...

22. I'm grateful for a friend who takes my dogs out for a run every morning.

23. I'm grateful for an Internet friend who called to brighten my day - but I'll be even more grateful if next time she calls she asks if I have anything cooking on the stove!!

24. I'm grateful to live in a community small enough to be friendly but large enough to have good shopping, cultural events and stores open 24-hours (never know when the urge to shop will hit!)

25. I'm grateful for the nice weather we've enjoyed in November; October was a surprise with our yearly snowfall coming in one month, but November has been very pleasant.

Day 25: I am so deeply grateful that God introduced Himself to me decades ago, and continues to do so every day. I'm so grateful God made me His child and gives me all I need to live, decade after decade. I'm so grateful tomorrow we have a day set aside to be grateful, in any way we choose, to all those we owe debts of gratitude.

And I'm most grateful to have the most wonderful One to give my thanks.

My wife and I are celebrating our silver anniversary of marriage December 1 st.

November 28th marks 30 years of military service to this great country (CANADA)

Montreal Alouettes are in the Grey Cup. They are 1-5 the last 6 times this decade but on any given Sunday...

I'm extremely grateful to be alive to celebrate another Thanksgiving.
I'm ever so grateful for all my Sploofus friends who continue to pray for me and to make me laugh and smile.
I don't think I could do all this without all of you.

Thank you my dear friends and have the best Thanksgiving you've ever had. You all deserve it.
You will be in my blessing at the table tomorrow.
