That was beautiful. As I recall, the tune is "Finlandia" or something like that, isn't it? Been a long time since I've played it in band! I didn't happen to see it on the page with the video but I could have overlooked it.

Very good, Pat. It is from some of the later measures of Finlandia by Sibelius, and is the basis of the hymn "Be Still, My Soul."

We had a clinic with the Fort Worth Symphony in June and I had a chance to direct them playing this piece. I turned it down because I'm the only one of the orchestra directors in FWISD who was not a string major nor have I had orchestral conducting training (my degree is choral, as is my formal conductor training).

When they got to this portion of the piece, I was so glad I had declined to conduct, because it was so beautiful I started weeping! It would have been even more embarrassing!

I could listen to this piece forever - and hopefully I will!
