LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – "The upcoming debut album by British singing sensation Susan Boyle has become the largest global CD pre-order in the history of, the online retailer said on Thursday. Boyle's album "I Dreamed a Dream" will be released on November 24 by Sony Music Entertainment. It is the first album since the dowdy 48 year-old church volunteer from Scotland took the Internet by storm with her unlikely star turn on the TV show "Britain's Got Talent" in April. Amazon said that Boyle's album was not only the top CD pre-order in the United States, but also the biggest around the world in the 14-year history of it's web site."
I think the general consensus of fellow Sploofusers, would concur, Susan is very talented; what a joy it is listening to her voice! I still enjoy watching the original audition, and so, just "one more time for the kipper", here is the original audition.

Thanks, Deedee, but I think something is wrong with the link. It doesn't connect for some reason.

Marilyn - You're the best! I appreciate you for letting me know there was a problem. Thank you. This link is a go...

I have heard a lot about her but I had never heard her before. (I almost never watch these contrived ridiculous programs.) I have heard huge praise and some harsh criticism of her too. She has enormous presence and is a great singer. She obviously was thrilled to be there. I was gobsmacked, stunned! The sad reality for talents like this is that once the they have lived the dream for a while and the money, fame, pressure and all the rest of the crap that goes with it start rolling in they lose tthe innocent sparkle. The shear pleasure of performing is ground out of them.
It's almost tragic. I can't help wondering if she would have been better off just singing in the church choir.
I only hope that she has a strong and decent support behind her to help her ensure that her talent remains the issue.

Wow! much for a positive and what I thought, non-controversial thread, acknowledging the talent of Susan Boyle.

We are listening to her album (again). I was a little worried that the producers might somehow screw it up, but I think the arrangements are very tasteful and she sounds fantastic.
Couldn't believe she was going to do a version of Wild Horses but it is terrific. A little too much echo on How Great Thou Art - she sounds like Enya on steroids.
I think even Daydream Believer works, and if she would have sung You'll See in the finals she might have won.
I give it

I felt so sad for her after she came in second on Britain's Got Talent.

She thought she had lost, but in fact she was already a winner.

Thank you for bringing this to the forefront Gary! An eclectic collection of songs which showcase her magnificant voice and incrediable vocal range. I am totally enamored with Susan and her first album and has left me crying me , more, more, more!
I gifted several friends with the album via iTunes on Thanksgiving Day...oh, and myself as well! "Wild Horses" is my favorite, but "Up to the Mountain" and "You'll See" are not far behind. I have listened to the album so many times, I have lost count...but then, who's counting?

If you would like to try a quiz about Susan,I wrote one called,'Britian's Got Talent". What an angelic voice she has and it is always nice when someone who has lived the life she has for very few rewards makes it very rewarding to see that sometimes in life you get a break!!!!!!!!!!! buchanan

Wordster - listen to it. We bought two; one for us and one for a favorite patient of mine who is 90 and single and thinks she is "hot". Listened to it last night and really liked it.

I have a STRONG feeling that the "loss" at the end of the season was fixed because she was going a bit nuts from over exposure. Now she seems to have it together.

Look at the acknowledgments. the number one is to Simon Cowel. Got to be a reason for that.

At least a hundred of the YouTube "views" of her BGT debut are mine. I bought her album and absolutely love her!

Okay, for sure we love every song on Susan's album, but if you had to choose just one...which would be your favorite?

I Dreamed a Dream is still my favorite, because
it seems so personal to her own life story.

First cup of coffee sitting close at hand, thunder rumbling, rain pelting the windows and listening to Susan sing my favorite song; a nice start to a Sunday morning. I totally agree with you Row! The lyrics of "I Dreamed A Dream" very well could be a page ripped from her journal. The moment the song begins, I picture her in my mind, singing her heart out, looking beautiful in her shimmering, silvery dress, during the BGT finale. My favorite could very well be a page ripped from a journal... mine. She cries out a song that is a heartbreak personified..."Wild Horses".

Thanks Summer, I'll have to listen to that (Wild Horses) again.
Really only bought the album to hear the "Dream"
and to support her efforts to be a famous singer.

I used to wish I was Barbra Streisand, for so many reasons,
not the least of which were her vocal range and diverse talents.

Hope that Susan Boyle can withstand the Publicity and demands
of Fame. She is past the age of needing to be "adored" and
falsely "glorified" I think they purposely made her second on the
BGT show, to give her some breathing space - to be "normal" again.

What's all the fuss about?
OK - last night on Brit TV she was awarded what is now a very rare 1,000,000 cd.
Her voice is very good but, amongst fellow professionals, not over-remarkable.
I suspect this is a Diana-syndrome - massive over-reacting to an emotional Disneyland.

"What's all the fuss about?" is right....who rattled your chain? To which "fellow professionals" would you be comparing Ms. Boyle's voice? "Massive over-reacting to an emotional Disneyland"...don't think so guy! "Diana syndrome"...nope! Talented, genuine, and a lovely soul...yes! "The proof is in the pudding" Surreyman....

I wrote a quiz on Susan called "Britians got Talent",I also bought her CD,"I Dreamed a Dream",and just listened to it. If you want a tear to come to your eye and chills running up and down your spine, buy the CD.She is absolutely magnificant(sp). buchanan

Perhaps what Surreyman is refering to, is that Susan Boyle
hasn't quite developed her own "style" yet....

But I did hear the beginnings of a unique sound in
"Wild Horses" Loved her range and the fullness of the sound
on the rest of the album - except for "How Great Thou Art"
Whilst listening to that track, my only thought was -
"they must have been in a hurry to release the CD"

Or maybe Surreyman is a fan of Elaine Page????

Wordster and Surreyman....

I've been thinking a lot about what you both said
and wonder if either of you is old enough to have
heard Gracie Fields in her heyday????
It seems to me that Susan Boyle could be as
"big" as "our Gracie" was - for the same reasons.

She has an air of confidence and humour, as well
as the voice - and those are the things that made
us love Gracie....her natural charm and talent.

I do hope the "handlers" leave her alone....
