UNHEARD CHRISTMAS SONGS

Anybody have a favorite Christmas song that they don't usually play on the radio (at least where you live)?

Some of you may think this is a bit early, but I really enjoy Christmas songs.

Here's one of mine, a song you know but this is my favorite version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHzxpECFm2Q

John Cage 3.34 would be may favorite Xmas song --well ahead of all the rest (bah humbug!)

I can count my lucky stars I've not heard one this year...how long can that last?

"I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." by Gayla Peevey.

Very cute song in a voice that makes you thankful she didn't record an album.

I have many other favorites, but they get a respectful amount of airplay. Unlike many folks, I can listen to Christmas music any time of the year, but if you check my Sploofus pictures, the one of me with Lilo and Stitch explains why.

M48ortal, just saw your photos and was fascinated by the hidden Mickeys (at Disney World?). They're everywhere!

(Sorry for the thread veer, just had to say it.)

In the early 1950's, Gene Autry followed up his "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" with several Christmas tunes, none coming close, success-wise. But a local radio station would start each broadcast of their "Letters to Santa" show with "Santa's Comin' in a Whirlybird."

There's a tune you don't hear much anymore.

Don - is that Walt Kelly's work then? My son and I can't stop giggling over it I use 'Pogo for President' in my acting class as a vocal exercise.

I am assuming that it is Walt Kelly's work. The lyrics kind of match the style of his strip dialog and I have never heard it accredited to anyone else. There was a recording of it by someone at one time.

My son had the song "Christmas Shoes" by Newsong dedicated to me at the Annual Macy's Christmas Parade 3 years ago when I was in the Cancer ward for the holidays. The song is very sad but at the time, was quite fitting from what was expected for me. My odds were 20% to make it to Christmas, 2006.
What makes that song so special to me is that my very camera shy son arranged to be able to speak about his "most loyal and devoted" mother and asked Jesus to wait longer to meet "my" mother.
This took as much bravery for my son to do as it did for me to go ahead with the treatments I decided to undergo, this time around.

I like the little drummer boy version by David Bowie and Bing Crosby the best. It is on Youtube.
