The threads saying a 5-year-old boy in Michigan has end-stage cancer and would like to receive Christmas cards have been deleted since, according to, the family no longer wishes this. An excerpt from Snopes:

"Please stop sending cards and gifts. Noah is very ill. He is not getting out of bed, and it is time for Scott, our families and I to concentrate on our son. His time is very short, and he needs us.

Scott and I would like to say thank you so much for the support and continued show of love. However, we are asking that everyone please stop sending cards and gifts."

Thank you, Pennwoman, for pointing this out.

And Craig Shergold's house has sunk into the earth under the weight of 30 years of postcards.

I didn't have time to research this. I thought I was doing something nice for a sick child. I'll mind my own business from now own. Have a happy Thanksgiving and God bless. Renee

Indeed your intent was noble Renee. My heart took a plunge when I read your response to editor's post, regarding the reason for your deleted thread. Then, bam! A double whammy when a fellow player added an additional response; certainly not aware this might hurt the feelings of a fellow player with only good intentions. Of course, I haven't a clue as to whom the editor is, but I think he/she fell down for thanking "Pennwoman for pointing this out." I feel it would have been a kind gesture, on the part of the editor, to have acknowledged your thought and sensitivity in bringing the topic to Salty Dog. It was admirable of our fellow player, Pennwoman, not to post the information, but instead chose to contact an editor. (Very, very nice Pennwoman. )

Take heart Renee...your random act of kindness did not go unoticed.

How sad, Noah passed away today. Our hearts go out to all who are experiencing a loss at this holiday season.

And Renee, we might not know to pray for the family without your timely thread. Thank you for letting us know about Noah, and now we know what to do!

You're absolutely right, Summertime. I made an error, and I hope Menopausin will accept my apologies. My intent was not to criticize but to simply explain why the threads were deleted.
