10 MOVES FOR A WORD PUZZLE???

I want to know how ANYONE can complete the last two word puzzles in ten moves. It has now been done twice and these are LARGE puzzles. Someone please explain to me how it can be done.

It can be done one of two ways.

1- The person who got it has more than one account (that has not yet been detected by Sploofus) and they are taking it several times.

2- Einstein isnt actually dead!

I think the last post hit the nail on the head! (I'm still giggling, Sirius).

Seriously, I just don't believe it can be done legitimately. Five puzzles in 10 moves (average two moves per puzzle), when some of those phrases consisted of nine words! Come on!

These "winners" are only fooling themselves. I doubt if the rest of us are either fooled or impressed.

We did the last one in 10 moves and it wasn't that hard - since all of them started the same we just had to figure out the rest and besides all the pet peeves are our pet peeves too - now tonight _ i can't explain that one - especially when you throw in some "english" phrases that most of us never heard of. We only have one account and we were just very lucky on that one - but for some people to get 10-15 moves everytime - then I would be really suspicious.

Yep -- it is no secret. Those who cheat and have multiple accounts will have their accounts terminated.

We'll catch them all sooner or later, but people still try and get away with it. All accounts are EXTENSIVELY audited if they happen to win a gift certificate (before the prize is awarded)... so 9 times out of 10 the cheaters get canned when they think they'll be getting a gift certificate

We play sploofus for the fun of it and could care less about winning anything or not - we loved the teams that we used to have but we saw how the cheating was going on with them and we don't blame sploofus for doing away with them - but why can't people play sploofus for what it was intended for F U N ! - if you want competition go someplace else - don't ruin the fun for us who just love to play.

Well let me just say that every once in a GREAT while I get really lucky and do awesome but usually I am average. But on a day like today when I beat tuzilla, I feel just gooey. Now, if I could just outdo linenlady just once on a wordround, my life would be complete.

Oh that 's too funny, Mamacurlyhead. Take a number and get in line; It's a free lunch. Everybody beats me. A couple months ago, Violetblue wrote to me and said "it's impossible to beat you" then proceeded to beat the crap out of me. The nice thing about Word Rounds is, it's impossible to cheat and there doesn't have to be all this unfortunate name-calling and insinuations over what is, after all, a game.

Mamacurlyhead, I'm with you. I'm competitive,
but I play to have fun and to stretch my brain
muscles. It's too bad that some people have to win no matter what. Fortunately, it seems like
most of the people are not like that. I enjoy
going up against these people.

Well, it appears that Sploofus has finaly looked into certain peoples accounts. They even flagged my wifes account. I admit that we help each other out on the Word Puzzles, but we are nowhere close to the top 2 people. Our points combined don't even come close to his. I wish Sploofus would go back to the Team concept and take away the monthly prizes. At least people were playing for fun then.......

Ha! Linenlady... I hardly beat the crap out of you! You did have more points than I did last month... and I have yet to get a time under 20 secs but you have been kicking the WR clock's booty!

I am going away for a long weekend in October so I won't be in the running for next month either... but I may try to jump back in for November.

Your actual typed in GUESS takes a "move" too, so finishing in 10 moves means you guessed ONE letter for each phrase and then guessed the answer (unless you guessed NO letters for one, and then you could have used TWO for another). The does seem pretty darn impossible to me on these long and odd phrases...but I have to say...so what? Is the prize really that important? or being on top of the leaderboard? If you are here to play for fun, then just play and have fun, and shake your head at the foolishness of the cheaters!

So far, it's only the number of moves that have been discussed. Let's not speculate on how some players manage to complete these puzzles with a minimal number of moves AND in extremely short times.

I agree with Suzer's comment that it's best to just play for your own enjoyment and not get too competitive. I come here just to play the word puzzles and quizzes. I do not get involved in any of the wagering, prizes, jackpots, leaderboards, etc.

Good points Suzer.........go figure, if you subtract 5 (for the actual guesses) from the 10 moves, leaves 5 letter guesses for all 5 puzzles........it definitely doesn't take a _ _ _ _ _ _ Scientist to figure it out what's REALLY GOING ON!!!

But still love the Word Puzzles, and like all here on this chat, play for fun.....even if linenlady has some weird laser speed connection for those lightning Word Round scores, LOL.

Thank you Sploofus for being on the case!

The potential prizes are meaningless - especially since I never get anywhere near 'em!
But the cheats don't want their few pounds/dollars of vouchers.
They're in there for the joy of beating the system, as are hackers.
How about removing the incentive to attain such crazy 'one move per test' scores?
Give all players, say, 5 'free' goes per test.
With a minimum possible score of 25 (or whatever level), genuinely good players could also still hit the top.
OK, not as fiercely competitive, but the genuine players don't seem to mind that from the posts above.

Enough! We've had 300 posts about this topic. Yes, people probably cheat, but what good is it doing them? And honestly, what harm does it cause? When you look at the high score list, mentally delete the obvious cheaters from the list and move your name up. If that's what it takes to make you feel better, so be it.

I understand the frustration, but talk about beating a dead horse. . .

Oh, yes. QUACK.

Sinope,
Let me clarify that I wasnt trying to accuse you of cheating either, I was just posting a silly little quip about those who do indeed cheat because I know there are some of them out there. My message was to be taken lightly and I'm sorry if you took offense to it.

For my own part I cant complete a word puzzle in under a bazillion moves (which my fiancee is always quick to point out) haha so it's been a long time since I took one. Anyone got any great wordpuzzle tips?

As I have said before - I don't know how anybody - genius or not can complete the puzzle in 10 moves and under 3 minutes. I guess I need to have my daughter do the puzzles - she is a Mensa and if she could "ALWAYS" do them in very few moves and "ALWAYS" do them in very few minutes, then maybe it would make a believer out of me, but I don't know of anybody (not even KEN JENNINGS) who could ALWAYS get the puzzles done in little moves and little time.

I think Sploofus should look into doing a WordPuzzle like they do the TQOTD. Send an e-mail to every member with a link for one WordPuzzle. This will eliminate all of the accusations because the categories wouldn't be anywhere near the same and it would be a different puzzle for every person. Just my thoughts...any comments? Sploofus?

Please, Sploofus---give everyone different WordPuzzles! That will end all this "speculation" about who's a cheater and who's not.

People keep saying stuff like:
"Hey, SOMEBODY who's near the top of the leaderboard got the puzzle in 10 moves in 3 minutes! He is a CHEATER! And his name starts with an 's' and ends with an 'inope'... how suspicious is THAT!"

Then I say I'm not a cheater, and they get all diplomatic:
"Sinope, I didn't accuse you, I want you to understand that. I was saying more in a GENERAL sense. In fact... I was absolutely NOT saying that ANYONE was cheating! When did I say such a thing!?"

Sigh...

yeah...you don't cheat, Sinope. I really couldn't care less except for the fact that I'm as competitive as the next user and I'd, for once, like to see how I stack up against other legitimate players. I don't want ANY prizes either. I hope you get a big, fat, lump of coal in your prize bin at the end of this month. BTW...the drama cracks me up. Keep up the good work, folks.

If you look at the stats (number of moves and time in seconds) for today's and yesterday's Word Puzzles, and compare them to the stats for the preceding seven days, there is a noticeable difference.

The stats are beginning to look more realistic!

The numbers look different the past couple of days because sploofus is using a speedtrap to catch people. It used to be sub-10 scores were flagged and assigned a score of "99". then you had to write them to explain how you could achieve such a score. I did this on the NFL teams quiz where all you had to do was look at the number of letters in each word and, with few exception, you could name the team without picking any letters. one letter was the most you ever needed if you stopped to think. The same was true for "westerns" where every movie I had was in my 5-10 all-time favorite westerns and I had seen them 3 or more times apiece over the years. one letter tops and the title was easy to nail.

I appears sploofus has move the threshold for this speedtrap up to the 20-22 range...so several people have been flagged and pulled. Fortunately, I did so bad yesterday the only flag I need fear is one for obstructing traffic.

So now the "cheaters" will get just one more guess then sploofus is flagging - like 23 guess and they won't be flagged and still will end up in the top 10 - I understand.
