INFAMY

On my drive home today, I was thinking about Pearl Harbor and how horrifying it must have been to be in that area 68 years ago.

I was thinking about how those stationed in Hawaii must have thought they were so lucky to be staying in such a gorgeous place. Great weather, beautiful scenery, wonderful people. The Hawaiian native grandparents of a former student had their wedding planned for the morning of June 7, 1941, outdoors, under their favorite tree.

That wedding had to be postponed for a long time because of the attack that day.

I can't imagine what it was like to be there that day. But I hope we never forget those whose lives were taken, sacrifices made, heroes we'll never know about, people who were serving their country. For those of you who lost family members that day, our thoughts are with you and with your loved ones.

YES....
AND THAT WAS ALSO THE DAY THE JAPS BOMBED HONGKONG.
AND THE NEXT DAY THEY BOMBED SHANGHAI
MY PARENTS HAD LEFT SHANGHAI A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THAT
TO GET AWAY FROM THE JAPS.
UNFORTUNATELY THEY CHOSE TO GO TO HONGKONG, AND MY
FATHER WAS KILLED THERE
