I don't see anything wrong with after getting to know someone they give you their name and ask for yours. If other people feel left out that is just the way things go. I see it as a positive of getting to know people on sploofus and I don't mind it a all. There certainly is no rule on it in terms and conditions. So I think someone is once again trying to stir the pot and then sit back and watch.

I agree for the most part but when someone "stirs the pot" it makes for a more interesting and lively forum.

Unless the pot that they stir is full of worms. Not the nite crawlers you go fishing with either. Donden your pot stirring is always welcome.

When someone cares enough to go to my Sploofus homepage and look up my name and then use it, I feel a wee bit honored that they considered me to be worth the effort. If I did not want my name to be known, I would have left it off my homepage. Some people do this, or use another pseudonym, which is absolutely their right. Although I wonder about their need for anonymity, I accept it.

I've been here for almost two years now. I almost always sign my real first name to my posts so that people will know what my name is and that it's OK to call me that. You can also refer to me by my avatar, if you want, or as "That lady who loves cats," but the latter could describe many people here.

I've missed something somewhere! Where did this topic first appear?

Smaug had a tongue in cheek gripe of the day on 12/7 about using real names. It started then.

I always feel really pleased when someone refers to me as Alice (much as I hated the name as a kid) because it means they took the trouble to find out - or they have a really good memory. That said, one of my favorite members just refers to me as Bird, and that always makes me smile.

When I was in the classroom, I answered to everything. A lot of my middle school kids, when they were really anxious to be called on would yell out Mommy. That was a riot, but I told them they could only call me Mommy if they gave me a Mother's Day Present. It worked - some kids stopped calling me Mommy, and others gave me presents. They also called me by the name of the teacher they had the period before - whoever that was. I was also Mrs. K. And my last few years in the school, a bunch of kids started calling me Special K. That was kind of fun.

Bottom line - I don't think it matters. Real names are fine/Player names are fine. But if you want others to know who you're talking about around here, you need to include the Player name, cause we're certainly not all familiar with everyone's real name.
