IN CASE YOU MISSED MY POST ON THE ISLAND

Wiki's Tiki Bar and Grill will hold it's grand opening on New Year's Eve...Everyone is welcome. Dress is casual and I have plenty of 45's for the jukebox. Bring lots of quarters and your dancing shoes. Bring a covered dish if you want and we'll rock in the New Year! By the way, anyone wanna play bartender that night?

I think I might even still have some 1930s Armstrong etc.
Certainly 50s 'pop' - Haley etc. which is when I was buying myself. What's Haley's Rock Around The Clock (my first bought myself I think) First Edition 78 now worth?!
First 45 bought was Donegan - and my 45s are now a mile high! Tons of skiffle (I used to be in a group).
First 33 was, unbelievably, Lawrence Olivier's Hamlet on a multi-disk set!
Masses of 33s in my collection now of course. I know some of the early musicals on 33 (King Kong for instance) are worth something.
I actually don't think I've ever bought a cd for myself (although plenty given to me) - they were after my time!
Luckily we have a steam-driven machine that plays 'em all!

Alan I think you and I should sit down and compare record collections...I have over 3000 in mine but alas no 78's. My dad had a bunch and I have no idea what happened to them. My brother may have them. I also have cassettes and CD's but those aren't the same as listening to a 45 or an LP is it? Did you know that they are talking about bring vinyl records back because CD sales are down? I read about this on MSN.com...Most 78's if in good condition can go for quite alot depending on who the artist is. I can find out for you if you want me too.

Oh yuk - the 78s are all up in the garage somewhere. That'll have to await our next house move before they're re-found - that could be in 2010 though.
45s & 33s are far too numerous to list - but nothing approaching your 3,000!

Jim, sticking tacks into the hammers of an old piano works perfectly to make it sound honky tonk!

I'll make everybody's favorite in my family. Potato salad with cut up skinless, boneless chicken breasts, hard boiled eggs(as long as I'm not on the phone with Pat, ha ha),onions, celery, cucumbers, chickpeas and Helman's mayo with a dash of mustard mixed in.
