I'm gonna try to explain this as best I can. As you know, Laurie was taken to the hospital New Year's Eve with anaphylactic shock from the new med they put her on. Then they found pneumonia. They put her on IV antibiotics and oxygen/albuterol therapy and fluids. This morning about 3 am, she started having trouble breathing, and they said she had Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Then the fluid in her lungs increased and her legs began to swell. They did all kinds of tests, including heart, kidney, etc. They said her heart is fine and didn't say anything about her kidneys. But she has pleural effusion, which is excess fluid that accumulates in the pleural cavity, the fluid-filled space that surrounds the lungs. They're also testing her sputum, which they said has no blood in it, so that's good. Blood in it would probably have meant that the cancer had spread to her lungs. She's being taken into surgery now for drainage tubes with a flutter valve. She wanted me to update you guys and tell you she appreciates all your prayers and good wishes. When they find out something and let me know, I'll update you. I'm not all that familiar with some of this, even with my years as a nurse. I didn't work in hospitals. So forgive me if I don't explain it as well as I should. I'm upset, too, and that doesn't help. Please keep Laurie in your prayers. Thanks!

I haven't gotten an email from her in about 15 minutes, so she's already in surgery. My heart breaks for everyone who's going thru these things right now! Several people on Sploofus are having difficult problems. I pray that God be with them and comfort them. Renee

Laurie sent an email this morning about 9:30 cst. I would have been on sooner, but the internet service here and my Gmail has been on the fritz. She came out of surgery OK, but her blood gases are still a little low. She said she felt like some sort of a machine with all that stuff in her chest. The surgery took longer than they thought because they had to work around her Hickman port.
We were talking about the oxygen and nasal 'cannula' and now she's wanyting cannolis! LOL! Her daughter-in-law is going to make her some. Lol Laurie!
Anyway, I thought I'd update you on the surgery. They've got antibiotics and pain killer on board the IV, so here's hoping and praying she's better soon! Thanks for the prayers, they're working!
I hope you guys have a great Sunday!

First I have a HUGE thank you for Renee, my own personal nurse for updating everyone for me. Last night, I couldn't type worth a darn. I asked her to do this because I know from the past that if a lot of my friends on here don't receive emails from me, they start to wonder what is going on. It is pretty much becoming some kind of ritual or something that I end up here. I would imagine by now, you all must be getting sick of me, and I wouldn't blame you a bit. I'm really sorry that there has been so many times that your prayers and good thoughts are needed for me. I have no clue how to thank you enough for your continued prayers, kind thoughts, and moral support you all continue to give to me. Please know that I appreciate you all so much and thank you for everything you all have been doing for me.

I'm going to share some happines, instead of the health crap.
I finally warmed up in this ice box called a hospital.
Tony and Danny went to J C Penny and bought me one of those blanket things that has arms in it.
Also another pair of flannel pajamas, warm socks and new slippers that won't slide accross the
wax floor. I'm all wrapped up like a baby in a swaddle, except for my hands. I even have the hood up!
Danny brought the cannolis that Renee made me hungry for, but for today, I was only able to eat a half of one.
They are sooooooo good but my stomach isn't quite ready for them yet. Watch out when I am!!! Ha ha
Thank you all for everything and have a pleasant evening.

Sorry I missed this at the start, but happy to see that Laurie has posted on it already. You've got the best spirit of anyone on Sploofus! Hope you're out of the hospital soon and they "fix you up" asap! You'll be much warmer in your own home...

Thank you all so much again for your continued prayers and well wishes. I didn't post anything yesterday because there wasn't anything positive to post, as I have septicemia( infection of the blood). I have been in ICU and isolation for two days now and have been sleeping quite a bit. I still have the blood infection but the really good news is that my pneumonia has cleared up and I was taken off of the antibiotics for that today. Tomorrow, I will be having the chest tube taken out that was needed to drain fluids out of my lungs. That is how I ended up with the septicemia, but I still can't wait to get this thing out. Another bit of good news is that by doubling the immunotherapy my cell counts that are needed for the last donation of blood marrow and the apheareses are going up significally. I had an appointment scheduled to go to my orthopedist tomorrow with the films and reports of the PET and CT scans to see how many bones have been affected with the bone cancer, but will be rescheduling that when I get out of here. Hopefully, it wont be too much longer before I go to the cancer center to have the bone surgury, chemo, and the transplant. Not that I am looking forward to any of it but I just want to get it over with as soon as possible. I'm quite sure you all agree with me on that so that you don't have to hear about me anymore! Ha ha
God Bless You All,

Thank you, Beverly. This saga indeed, has and still is going on and on and on..............
There have been many times that I have felt like giving up, but I have way too much to live for, including
both my wonderful kids that would do ANYTHING for their Mom. I also have the sweetest grand children
anyone could ask for. Logan, my grandson, is almost 3 years old and told me to never, ever, ever go away again and he will make me all better.
Isabelle is almost 5 months now and other than her Mom, I'm the only girl she has. Her mom has 6 brothers and they don't know the first thing
about buying "girl" things for her. Ha ha I am also the only grandparent that they both have. Tony does fill the "grandpa" roll very well though.
He has been asking me to marry him for 6 1/2 years now and I am finally considering it. I have 2 ex-husbands, one being in prison now, and really didn't want to try the "Three times is a charm". There is not one thing that Tony wouldn't do for me. He is very old fashioned and still opens doors for me! Ha Ha
There are times that he does tend to drive me nuts though. He actually gets mad sometimes when I want to clean house. I tell him to stop treating me like I'm an invalid, something that I am NOT.
It is my dream to be cancer free next year at this time. I have fulfilled many dreams, so hopefully this one will be another one. With God's help, I have survided this long, so I truly believe He has more plans for me, and with that, I can't give up quite yet.
Once again, thank you and everyone else that care and pray for me.

Dear Laurie,
Tonight is the first time I read of your illness. I will pray for you that your prayer for remission will be answered. I'm so sorry for all that you have been through and are going through now, but I am happy that you did not let your recent bout of illness defeat you.
God bless,
