This was last up-dated on the 4th I believe. You might want to read it.

Thanks, Marsha, for posting this. I have never used Zicam but it's good to know just in case and also to let your friends know who may use it..

I'm so glad Marsha shared this information. I have the nose swabs at home that are going to be sent back to the company with a copy of this article. Get my 15 bucks back!

I've only taken the tablets. They work really well for me, so I've never even considered using the nose swabs.

A lot of people use water with a slight amount of vinegar or Lysterine to swab their nose for prevention of illness. Does anyone know if those home remedies are at all effective?

Jan, before I stick vinegar or listerine up my nose I'll ride out the illness.

Thanks Marsha, this is very timely as the cold season is upon us!
They first reported this loss of smell problem a year ago, and took the products off the market, but apparently the drug company is trying to reinstate them...are they crazy? Loss of smell may seem small, but I had an aunt who lost hers in an accident and it was awful...affects how everything tastes and also we depend on smell for all kinds of warnings. My aunt had three babies, can you imagine?
So drink lots of fluids, wash your hands with soap for 30 seconds, don't shake hands and keep your hands out of your eyes....forget the swabs!

Thanks, but probably not available here.

You can't even buy Pepto Bismol in France.

The concentration at which either vinegar or Listerine would begin to be effective against bacteria or viruses would damage the mucous membranes in your nose and give you a whole new set of problems, one being the erosion of the membranes, making you more susceptible to what you're trying to avoid plus infection of the open membranes. I'm with Donden, before I stick either up my nose, I'll ride out the illness. Washing your hands often is still the most effective way to avoid illness. I hope we all have good luck avoiding illness this winter.
