The first quiz challenge was a great event and very successful. Twenty-seven (27) quizzes were created on Natural Wonders of the World. Quiz ratings ranged from 7.6 to 8.3. They were the best series of quizzes I ever took. I am eager to do it again.

Now is the time to start preparing for the September challenge. All of the first challenge participants were asked to send in ideas for the new challenge. The three most popular were selected. It is now time everyone ot voice an opinion and help pick the September quiz subject. Please pick one (1) from the following:

List your choice here, or send a message to tuzilla or surreyman. The others will be saved for October and November.

I reckon the FAMOUS PEOPLE would be the best, because it would cover such a wide ranging topic base that all of the quizzes would be so different.

any of the 3 would be fun...but man made wonders flows with the last group quiz topic!

What kind of awards? It's a very wide field, and people seem inclined to focus on actors and singers, ignoring all the other award-winners in this big old world. Famous People piques my interest. Thanks for asking...Sherry

Man made wonders sounds natural. It doesnt matter though, all sound good. A

I like historic people. Maybe narrow it down to a specific era like modern European history or revolutionary America.

I don't much care - they all sound good. But, I do have a question. Is there any time frame for this yet? I will be gone for awhile, and if they have to go up soonish, then I would have to write it before I leave. Or be left out (sniff, sniff).

Surrey and I hope we can develop a sense of the subject, and select it by early next week. I am still waiting for the powers above to sort out how they want to handle this as an ongoing event. The hope is for a special menu slot or category to allow the quizzes to stay in one group for an extended period.

Historic People please. The Wonders are great but I think can wait till next month, otherwise it will be too simlar to the previous series.

Award Winners? What award? If its an Academy Award, then it is not my department. If we consider here Nobel Prize winners, then it can be also categorized in "Historic People".

I'm with the majority!! History is always lots of fun!!

I ALWAYS seem to go for history, so to gallop off at a tangent this time, I would opt for "Man-Made Wonders". (I have something in mind! )
However, if the majority vote for history, and that becomes the designated topic, I won't be disappointed!

Any of them sound fine to me, although I'm with the person who said Man-made wonders should wait until next month, it's too similar to the last topic - don't want people to feel they've had too much of a good thing and get bored taking the quizzes!

Either award winners or Famous Historic People altho I've done a slew of famous quizzes.....make it about a certain time in history or a certain country....I did a couple of quizzes on award winners also...what ever the majority wants I'm ok with...Then maybe later on we can do one on childbirth from the father's point of view or something along those lines....LOL

Doesn't matter -- they're all fun.

I like the openness of AWARD WINNERS; anyone who wants to write about Academy Awards, fine; Nobel Prizes, fine; Spelling Bee winners, fine; Automobile makers, fine! I LIKE the diversity.

If you go with any of the other categories I just hope they stay open. I know others have said they want them to be narrowed down to a time period or some other smaller focus...but I've always thought the best thing about Sploofus is the way so many people with such diverse interests can come together. If the topic becomes 'Famous Award Winning Man-made objects of the American Revolution' then we will be cutting a lot of people out of the fun!

I was unable to contribute to the first one due to being out of town. I had on-line access, but only enough time to do Q-o'-the-day and the Word Puzzles. I'd like to be included in this one if possible.

Category choice doesn't really matter to me, but if I had to choose, I'd go with Famous People,...and then you could subtitle it after that. Same with awards,...just subtitle it to give folks a half a clue to go by.

But really, I'm open to any of them.

I will add to the others who said they all are good subjects. Manmade Wonders seems the most challenging, but whichever is chosen, it will be a good quiz to write. So Tuzilla and Surreymen, just waiting for an update on the deadline for submission.

I like the idea of a somewhat narrower focus. Natural Wonders was perfect, and I know a lot of people really liked seeing the diversity WITHIN the subject, as well as seeing some of the same information come up in different ways. A too-broad topic loses that.

I complete agree with GW. I prefer the more narrow focus. If this is a "challenge" than the quizzes should have a common bond. I feel that "Famous People" is too broad for that.

I may not be able to participate because of a vacation mid-September. However, my vote is for "Award Winners".

Being the author of one of the suggestions mentioned a few posts above, I'd like to input that while I'd like to narrow the focus, I mean only slightly - historic people of the modern european era is hardly a narrow focus. It could be famous leaders, famous singers, famous writers etc - just have an era narrowed down so that the quiz writers have something to focus on and the quizzes all have some sort of commonality.

Violet. Did you turn in a vacation application form to the office? The application period was January 25-February 20th. I don't see anything on file. Without an approved vacation you will be expected to stay online and participate.

Any of the subjects is fine with me, since we'll be getting them all over the next three months anyhow.

As to narrowing the subject, probably would be best. even if it is to a certain century or area of the world or even event.

And WTG Vickie to get our childbirth subject in Now wouldn't that be an interesting topic for quizzes??? LOL!

I'd have to go out on a limb and say MAN MADE WONDERS!

There's a little something I have in mind for that one!

but it's a secret...shhhhh

I vote for historic/famous people, without limitations on period or type. That was one of the charms of the first challenge. Let each of us do with it what we will.

Looks like 'Xxxxxxxxx's Famous & Historic People' has it rather easily?
Any major objections?
Don't start writing yet until it's 'officially' announced!

Do the individuals written about have to be both "Famous and Historic"? or one or the other?

I'll go with anything and not because I am wishy washy....however, I think famous/historic people would be lots of fun. Thanks for asking us.

Great topic...the only topic better would be "Things in Kelly's Kitchen". But given the number of authors that could be quite harry.

Count me in!!!

I vote for award winners.
If famous people/historical figures is chosen, I agree it would be more interesting and challenging to narrow it down.
