A WARNING...

I have taken most of my profile off Sploofus. I have learned my lesson. Do NOT be taken in by some false claim like I was. I cared too much and got my head chopped off for it. Beware the threads you post to.

What is going on. What has happened to prompt such a posting by you. Did you enter Smaug's Death Wish List competition and put a wrong name, or is there something more sinister. We need to know the reason if you want to be taken seriously.

Yes, can you tell us what or who we need to be aware of ? I mean it would really be messed up if this happens to someone else because they didn't have a clue on something you already knew! Wouldn't you agree?

I'm sorry to hear that this has occurred. You can see that many of us don't know what caused you to do this. Don't give up on the site!

It seems to be happening more and more that our posts
somehow find their way to Google, Facebook etc....

Now I'm sorry I always use my own name!!!!
Never anticipated such an invasion of privacy....

I did warn some people when we became "known"
on Google....but now it's more prevalent.

I've been trying to figure out how to post this without committing 'defamation of character". But there has to be 'character' first....................

I'm a little curious, myself, Don! Like Paul Harvey says about "The Rest Of The Story". I feel like I'm hanging in limbo.

I understand completely. She just wants to say watch out who you think is a friend and who you give personal information to, but she doesn't want to get personal and name names or accuse anyone.

It's good advice. I'm way over the urge to bring my most personal business here because people turn on you without warning or explanation and use your confidences against you. Just because you add someone to your friends list doesn't make them your friend. It's good advice to be extremely careful who you trust, and I have no urge to press her for details she clearly doesn't want to share.

I didn't mean name names. I was just wondering what the situation was in general.

Sorry, Marilyn. Didn't mean that quite so literally. I figured maybe she doesn't want to give details that might reveal who she has a problem with. We don't have to look far to see how destructive and long-lasting hurt feelings and grudges can be.

Yeah Smoke, because my feelings are hurt so easily and the pain lasts so long. Ha! I think we are all taking each other too seriously here. When I am face to face with my friends we seem to be able to criticize without any long term damage but when people do it with the printed word, watch out! Must be the permanent nature of the form. Too many times we feel overly insulted
when we read instead of hear. I have been taken the wrong way in this forum more than once and I probably have misjudged the intent of some of the "reprimands" aimed at me. Actually who gives a rats a$$ what other people say.

Onward & Upward

I've griped in the past about the profile/privacy thing. When 2.0 went live there was a blurb on the member profile form about your full name only being viewed by Sploofus, but in reality it was there for all to see unless you quickly noticed it and went back and manually changed it. I see it has been tweaked a bit and now there is a link on your My Sploofus page that says "click here to view your public user profile", which is a little better because you can now see how others view your profile.

It's just good sense not to list full names, full DOB, locales and e-mail addresses because anyone surfing through the site can access your profile, whether they are a member or not. It becomes particularly concerning when kids under 18 are signing up and playing because they are more likely to be victims of unsavory entities.

Even Facebook has taken steps to revamp their privacy settings, due in no small regard I'm sure, to the number of minors creating accounts on that site.

I'm not worried about my name and general location, I wouldn't be hard to find on a Tuesday night if someone cared enough to try, but I've got lots of muscular young friends who look out for me and I'm packing heat and a fiercely protective dog, so if you come, come friendly. I've never put my email or chat names on my profile. I decide who gets those on an individual basis.

Beware there are several women on here who only want your email address in order to send you indecent photos. See Lodi, I didn't mention any names. You are safe.
