MISSING #*(Y% WP

We absolutely, positively hated this. WTH. Barry, why make it so hard?

I agree, I took the whole puzzle and still can't figure out what was missing.

I really enjoyed the double layer of puzzlement. I did figure out the 4 letters but wasn't able to keep straight which was which. Tough one!

Thanks, Ken.

Now I know the four letters just in case they run it again for those of us who showed up at the wrong time.

I was really looking forward to this one, but agree that, given the already tricky gimmick and the lack of clues, the answers were too obscure. I was unfamiliar with three of my answers and knew *too* much about a fourth so I had too many options. Only my final puzzle, imo, had a straightforward, general-knowledge answer.

Next time -- and I hope there will be a next time -- keep in mind the learning curve and try to keep the answers on the simple side. "Florida," for example, can just be "The Sunshine State" or "The matriarch of the sitcom 'Good Times'"; it doesn't have to be "a song off Modest Mouse's latest studio album" or "the ship that collided with the RMS *Republic* in 1903."

For my part, I'll try to avoid typing in the missing letters in my final answer. For some reason, this is harder for me than you'd think.
