My 77-yr-old aunt was injured in a tree-felling accident. She is an active old girl who still teaches basket-weaving classes and she and her husband run a farm/orchard. The falling tree broke every bone in her face, and 8 ribs, some more than once. While she is expected to survive, she faces a long hospital stay and multiple surgeries, followed by a lengthy recovery period. She lost two brothers to heart attacks earlier this year, so this is a very rough time for her family. She reminds me of Barbara Stanwyck in "Big Valley."

I'm so very sorry to hear this. I'll be keeping your aunt in my thoughts and prayers. She sounds lively and spirited, so hopefully that will help her through this difficult time. I'm sure all those injuries must be very painful. I'm sending her lots of positive, healing thoughts. Please keep us updated.

Thank you to everyone. I know from experience that many of our members who read the messages without responding also take a moment to offer unwritten support.

She is responsive to speech, squeezing a hand in response, but unable to speak because of injuries and medical equipment. Her brain is not swelling, so that is good news.

Thank you all.

I just saw this today. So sorry to hear of your aunt's accident. Please add my warmest thoughts for a speedy, full recovery for an amazing woman. She sounds like someone I would like to try to emulate.

Although my aunt is still in critical condition and faces a long recovery, the doctors were able to remove her from the ventilator earlier this week, so she is making progress slowly.
Thank you all.
