Just curiosity, really, but - how do the author's ratings actually get calculated? eg mine is currently 7.7?

I worked on the basis of ([no of times the quiz is taken] x [average rating on that quiz]), repeated for all the quizzes, then divided by the total number of takers - but when I set up an XL spreadsheet to do just that (I wanted to know whether my 7.7 was actually nearer 7.701, ie only just on 7.7, or 7.799, ie one good quiz could take me up to 7.8) it didn't agree with my current rating at all!

I've been repeating the exercise every week or so for a while and sometimes my spreadsheet says my rating should be quite a bit less than Sploofus does, sometimes about right and sometimes quite a bit more!

Curiosity killing the cat, here, Justin, but please would you mind telling me?!

Many thanks

I fear it's much simpler than that -- simply the average of your rating for each quiz, with each quiz weighed equally, no matter how many takers.

Kaufman is right. The rating is a simple average of all the quiz ratings.

I think your statistics reflect what I find about my quizzes. The unique quizzes that appeal to a small group usually get higher ratings.

Well, unless it's changed since I started the spreadsheet, I'm afraid you're wrong - the figures are even further out if it's just the average weighting! That's why I came up with the formula I put in, because I couldn't get anywhere near the right figure until I did!

I add up all the ARs of the quizzes and divide by the number of quizzes. The number has always been right on the button. I find the number is rounded off to the nearest tenth. If you are at 7.75 your rating will increase to 7.8.
