This is WAY suspicious!!

I pasted your link to the quiz and it logged me off Sploofus. Other quiz links don't do that.

What's up???

I hate to sound so mean but whoever OK'ed this quiz knows very little about the subject. Do all editors screen all quizzes? Is there editors for every subject? Some for Technology only, TV only, so on and so forth.

Whew!...I see what is wrong...the link left out the "www". Curious that i took me to the quiz but logged me out without the "www".

Dipsomaniac, thanks for the heads-up.

Editors check for meeting the requirements of the SQAG only. For the most part this is grammar, spelling and plagiarism. For the sake of time and because editors are not experts on specific topics, we do not edit the content/accuracy of the quizzes. It is up to the author to be sure their information is accurate.

I forgot something else. When we edit a quiz, we do not know which answer is the correct answer. The answers show up in a random order (that way we can take the quizzes too!).

I agree. If we were in charge of actually checking all facts, the queue would have a backlog into the 1000's and we would be lucky to launch more than a couple dozen a day. If we see something obvious, we will mention it. But accuracy of facts falls on the author. If you get an inaccurate fact, send a polite note to them and explain it. If you get a quiz riddled with errors, use the link at the bottom of the quiz page to report it.

Oh wow. That's so wild. I've always assumed that the editors had to check the facts which is why I've been sending all of the links to websites to back up my correct answers! I was trying to save the editors research time! Ha HA!

Please continue to do that, Katy. It is the right thing to do to cover other issues and make our other checking easier. If you are using quotes and things like that, it is expected that you do that.

Thanks to all who do include these references. They are appreciated.

Then what is the basis for receiving and Editor's Award? Grammar or punctuation?

Editors' Awards are judged not only on grammar, punctuality and spelling, but also on content.

If a quiz has a refreshingly-different slant on a topic, and shows that it is well-researched and written, it will certainly be a contender for an EA.

A suitable accompanying image will give a quiz a finished presentation as well.

And don't forget that being well written extends to the quiz description and title as well!

Also, I think the above editor meant punctuation rather than punctuality. EAs aren't given for writing and submitting extra-fast. Hee hee.

Just to clarify. I write a good intro, place a pretty picture and have some articulate clues, I can then (if spelling is accurate) win an EA with non-facts, opinions and or repeated material? I just want to understand why people covet these awards when most of them seemed to be handed out to other editors. I'll choose the Smith-Barney method instead of whinning for one.

I have no idea what the "Smith-Barney method" refers to, but I can tell you that in addition to what the other editors have mentioned above, all quizzes must meet ALL the requirements of the SQAG. So EA awarded quizzes certainly could not have "non-facts, opinions and or repeated material." [refer to the SQAG 4a, 4d and 4f]

Just because we do not CHECK for content accuracy, that doesn't mean we don't recognize it.

Also, felix, your assumption that "most of them seemed to be handed out to other editors" is simply untrue. There are only 17 editors, yet hundreds of authors have received EA's. Certainly some of the EA quizzes were written by editors, but don't you want the people editing your quizzes to be good at writing them as well?

I believe the point (which Justin made clear in another thread) is that one should always try to write the best quizzes one can write and not "try" for the EA. Write the quizzes that amuse/educate/entertain/interest you to write.

Also, remember to brush, floss, and visit your dentist twice a year. It may not help you win an EA, but it sure can't hurt.

(I believe the Smith-Barney method is "the old-fashioned way ... by earning it.")

You meant tooth, right? Thanks for clearing up this matter. Very astute on the Smith-Barney thing. Sometimes a boomarang goes right over your head before it stikes you.

Make sure your punctuation is punctual, please?
What a goof I am!

Fenixfelix, we don't know who the Editors are, so how can you even suggest that they receive most EAs? That comment seemed uncalled for?

Why is the list hidden?

Read between the lines in chat. You'll be able to tell who is and who ain't. One's style of writing and arrogance is a dead giveaway. I am sure there is a good reason they hide there identities. Just look at it a Country Club mentality and it just won't matter. They have a tough job so let them have their perks.

If I were an editor my submitted quiz would not have said that there were 6 ahead of it for the last 24 hours. Some 20 have been at least released ahead of it. I guess this means the editors wanted to keep their quizzes on the board longer. Why is this? maybe it's beacase they're deciding how many awards to give my FITB quiz. LOL!
