Sort of odd....I have a pizza place downstairs from my office. They are always cheese chicken pizza, barbecued pork pizza, pineapple mango..weird stuff.

So today I went down and ordered a sliced green olive pizza. They all looked at me like I was nuts. The guy said in 20 years nobody had ordered a green olive pizza.

What a goof you are.

Everybody knows black olive pizzas are the best.

If you get a green olive pizza, I'd ask for a pesto sauce or alfredo sauce instead of marinara.

Reminds me my college days where we occasionally went to this all-night Greek diner where the night owl waiter spoke broken English. There was this green peas omelet on the menu that we never saw anyone order, but we always imagined how the waiter who mangled hamburger ("humburd sndwch") would call out such an order.

George Perry (formerly Peretski) and I agreed on "Grn pzzumlet." Wonder what happened to George. He had ridden the freedom buses in Mississippi, but my final year when I didn't have to study and sometimes played pool till dawn, he didn't study either.

I thought that you would only get a green olive pizza on St.Paddy's Day

I don't even know what that is.

In college I worked at a pizza parlor for 30 days (gained 30 pounds and couldn't afford to buy new pants on that pay).

Anyway, a fellow came in and actually ordered a green olive pizza. No one had ordered a green olive pizza, so I figured I'd really load it up for him. I fixed it and served it and when he took the first bite, his nostrils flared and his eyes bugged out, and he downed his drink in one gulp.

Y'know, jalapeno peppers look just like green olive bits in a shaded cooler.

He refused my offer of a free pizza (probably figured my next try would kill him), finished the pizza, bragged on it and left me a tip. I got only two tips in the 30 days I worked there. This was a college town.

We have a pizza place near the house that makes everything from scratch, top quality ingredients, consistently wins Best Pizza in Town surveys for 40 years or so, and they make a green olive, onion and mushroom (meat optional) that's awesome. I'd never had them on pizza until they offered them when I refused black ones (yuck). Now it's our favorite pizza.

I used to always get green olives on pizza but for the past couple of years no one carries that anymore. It's my favorite Boboli topping now.

One time I ordered a white pizza (no sauce at all) with anchovies and green olives - the next week I found out I was pregnant!

YIKES! Thanks for the warning! I'll lay off the anchovies.

You can hold the black olives no matter what you're putting them in for me. Green olives doesn't sound bad at all. Did they make the pie?

They did make it, but they had to hand slice the olives.

The owner said they were going to start making a three olive pizza now with green, black and kalamata (I think it is called).

It tasted exactly like a green olive pizza.

And so it goes...a trend has been started, good stuff.

How about the pizza restaurant in Florida called "No Anchovies" -- and they are serious! Why, a pizza without anchovies and green olives is unthinkable, bunch of chickens!

From those nasty salted anchovies you receive, you'd never know that the anchovy is actually a very nice little fish not dissimilar from a sardine (which you probably also don't see fresh). Here in Catalonia it is staple in the cuisine, often prepared with garlic and olive oil or in a spicy sauce.

Anyhow hold those dreadful green olives, Smaug. Not very useful in quality dishes. Black olives are - as in a Catalonian lamb dish I make - sauteed lamb steaks covered with black olive and fresh marjoram with lemon juice.

All that salt doesn't make you swell up, Smaug? And I don't mean your feet.
