It boggles my mind that after the change there are still people that get the puzzles in less than 10 tries for the answer. I could see if they are about specific answers you can check, hence the time facter, but there are others that there can be no way that the whole puzzle can be done in so short a limit. I'm not great at them, but I know when there is something not right!

Yesterday, we had the puzzle "Major Dickens Characters," and the top three scores were 6, 10 and 11. I'm guessing that this is the puzzle that prompted your post.

Now frankly, I'm not surprised by those scores. This was major Dickens characters, not obscure ones, and I'm confident that quite a few Sploofers are well read in Dickens. I myself got one name with no letters guessed; it would have been two had I known the difference between "Nickelby" and "Nickleby." I don't doubt that among the 13,000 of us, someone knows their Dickens well enough to identify a major character on the basis of the numbers of letters in that character's first and last name.

One thing I've learned here is that this site is frequented by some very intelligent and talented people, and you and I and everyone here can be put to shame by some of them in at least some of the many skills needed to excel here. I consider myself a good WordPuzzler, but not in the league of a few people I see up on the leaderboard a couple times a day.

Also remember that these puzzles are created by the site Editors, who I'm sure are aware of the criticism, and are interested in creating puzzles that will provide a true and fair challenge. I don't know if any are reading this, but I'm sure they'd have an interesting perspective on this matter.

Very well put, this IS one the ones I was referring to, but there are many more that I just can't fathom that are gotten so easily.
