VOTE REQUESTED

I need a favor.

My son, Bruce Dannatt, is in the running to be inducted into the Nebraska Figure 8 Hall of Fame for his career in demolition derbying. Would you please visit this site and vote for him (they have his last name spelled Dannet)?

Please pass this along to your friends and family, too. Bruce has driven in demolition derbies since he was 16.

A demolition derby is where a driver spends several weeks fixing up a car to get in an arena and deliberately smash into other cars. You can only vote once.

http://nefigure8n.com/2010nominees.aspx

Thanks for your help.

Done. Maybe they should just give the five finalists a car and let them have at it.

One of my sons has totaled five cars, but never been in any motor competition. And none were his fault. He applied for a job with our game and wildlife service. One of the questions was, "What was the largest deer you've killed." He answered that one and the next question was, "What did you use?" So he wrote down, "1999 Ford Taurus."

Doesn't this render the whole process meaningless ? I'm sure the lad is a fine driver, and he may even deserve to win, but what is the point of winning when many of the people voting have never seen you drive ? I don't mean to offend anybody, i just don't understand the concept of a hollow victory. It's a bit like asking people to pray for a complete stranger, even if (for some reason) you think prayer works. Why would anyone vote, or pray, for a complete stranger who could, in theory, be a right bast......, not very nice at all ?

My vote is in, Pat! Although I've never met you or Bruce, I like you, and I thought that was what friends were for. I try to help friends out when I can, and I have also prayed for people I haven't met. I don't try to push my beliefs on others, and it would be nice if others didn't always have to integrate their unbeliefs in a thread which could be ignored if someone doesn't wish to participate. Sploofus didn't use to be about negativity every time someone made a post, which may be why some people think twice before they even start a post as of lately.

Marilyn, unfortunately, there a lot of people that have nothing postive going on in their lives and I suppose they get their jollies by trying to pull everyone else down to their level. You on the other hand, are a kind caring person.......too bad that we can't clone a bunch of you. The world would benefit greatly.

Dave

You're right. A complete stranger could be a right bast..... I don't even know Pat. BUT,, she seems like a pretty nice gal and I'm a pretty nice gal and I've got wonderful sons, so I'm guessing she does too. So - why the heck not?? When you've got internet voting, you're gonna have folks beseeching kith and kin for votes. I'm happy to do this small thing for Pat's son.

He got my vote! I have to say I agree with some of what CC had to say (well, about the voting, not about the praying--though I'm more of a "sending positive thoughts" person myself). However, I do think Internet voting is going to be skewed one way or another, so I have no regrets about throwing my own vote into the fray. I hope the most deserving driver wins--and that it's your son!

Hey Dave, I didn't take offense at what you wrote. In fact, I agree with most of what you said.

In my opinion, it would have been a lot fairer if they had taken the nominations and had a panel of judges familiar with demolition derbies and the drivers select the winner based on skill, years of involvement, sportsmanship, etc., rather than turning it into a popularity contest. This method doesn't really prove anything other than who has the most relatives and friends and networks.

But they obviously didn't ask my opinion and they did not set any guidelines into the voting process, so...... there ya go.

no - you are to vote only one time in the whole contest. I dont' want him to be disqualified for multiple votes from individuals. I can't believe the program is not catching multiple votes.

That's because it's impossible to reliably catch multiple votes from any one person reliably.

Bruce Dannett is in the lead as of 8;15 p.m. [36 to 35%). The race is close.

But I JUST had to vote for the guy from YORK for the Figure 8 Hall of Fame while I was visiting the site. No brainer.

Hope progress on your vision continues.

Now this guy from York?

A comic book superhero who chugs Peppermint Patties, I presume?

Any superhero who chugs on peppermint patties definitely would increase their heroic powers.
Now if only politicians would chug on peppermint patties - just think of the possibility of really progressive legislation.

Bruce Dannett still leads with 38% of the vote!

Thanks everyone who has voted. Let's just wait and see now what happens. I appreciate everyone's participation. If he falls way behind I may come back and ask those who haven't voted to vote but it looks like he may be set.
