WANT TO LIVE LONGER AND HEALTHIER?

A pet may be the answer. There are health benefits to having a pet, especially as you get older.

For the first time in many years, I seem to have a pet again.

The cat-next-door has shifted himself over here since his owners got themselves a young dog which was eating his food as well as its own. (The owners had not realized this)
Sooty is an old black cat: he just wants a comfy place to nap, the occasional smooch, and some food.

He has become "Sir Sootykins" since bringing himself over here, and has filled out quite a bit. His black coat is flecked with white hairs that show his age, but he no longer has that brownish tinge that a black cat can get when it is malnourished.

He has never wanted to be a lap cat till last night, when I heard him crying outside....something was bothering him. I brought him in, and sat with him on my lap, soothing him till he settled, and started purring. I laid back, and he relaxed......eventually going to sleep in my arms, which he has never done before....it was good for both of us!!

Yup, Pat......I do believe you are right!

~Bev

Postscript:
Two days ago, I could have had an amusing photo if I had been quick enough: Sooty was stretched out on the grass in the backyard, alongside the food-dish containing his rejected canned chicken-turkey mince. ("I like fish best!" he says...)
As he dozed, the two resident ravens (Yahu and Yaku) came up and boldly stole all the food two feet from the dozing cat!
Not that he cared...........???
It woulda been a cute pic, though

Bev, I'm so happy that Sir Sootykins has you to come to. Maybe it is that you needed each other for some unknown reason. I adore all of my cats. They are a nice comfort when Ben is out of town...AND they seem to like the same books I do because we read together in the evenings.

Grand children, along with pets are good reasons to want to live longer and fight to do so.

I don't know if with all my animals that means I'll live a really really long time - or if they'll be the death of me!

I love the story of Sir Sootikins.

I have a cat with a similar story who apparently lives with me despite actually belonging to the neighbor across the street.

I forwarded Pat's message to my grandmother in Florida and we had a nice chat about it. It's always fun to connect with her, so thanks for the excuse, Pat!

After a few short weeks our recently acquired pup thinks
she can do all that cats do. Funny to watch her try to
jump from the couch to the coffee table. Not much feline
grace. She does, however, have all those qualities that
make having a pup worthwhile. (see avatar)

If you are on Facebook, please go to PAWS-itive Partners Humane Society and become a fan and then post a note about your beautiful Rylie, what kind of dog she is, the info you had here, etc. I wish more people would post pictures of their pets on the PPHS facebook page. Last time I looked we have more than 413 fans and the page has been up about 3 weeks.
