OLYMPICS VS NASCAR

I just spoke to my big brother on the telephone. He was agast that I was watching the Olympics instead of the NASCAR race. I was agast that he was watching NASCAR rather than the Olympics.

LMAO!

What are you guys watching?

I hate to admit it, but I watched an hour of curling this afternoon. Had no clue what it was about, but for some reason it was fascinating.

I like watching the Olympics as well. The idea of watching a bunch a guys drive around in a circle for several hours doesn't appeal to me. I like watching Curling too.

We've been recording every minute of the Olympics and then time-shifting. You can actually watch 4 hours of TV programming in a little over one hour. Speed thru commercials, sports you don't care about. Fortunately, we can record 2 programs at once - otherwise I would be sorely missing my usual Sunday night fare - Nature, Masterpiece, Desperate Housewives...

Art, if it was just a bunch of guys driving around in circles, I wouldn't watch it either. There's a little more to it than that, honest.

Hockey! Evgeni Malkin scored 2 goals in the Russian win over Czech, tonight its Canada with Sid the kid and the USA -- Brooks Orpik of the Penguins is playing for the USA -- Brooks is named after Herb Brooks of the 1980 USA Olympics fame!
How I do love Hockey!

Olympics. Ski Cross is new this year. Four skiers racing on the steep track with curves and jumps. Skill and strategy.

I don't think I've watched NASCAR since Richard Petty retired. When the major auto companies sponsored teams, Stock racing was like a test track for new ideas.

NASCAR fans should like the short track ice skate races, but there's no banked track.

When you mentioned Richard Petty, it brought up a memory I had forgotten - when I had surgery in 1992 in Omaha, his aunt was my roommate. Sweet, sweet lady, who unfortunately had advanced ovarian cancer.

Me and Richard go way back.

I've met him enough times that he remembers he's seen me before. Kyle, too. Wonderful, patient, friendly, generous men, both of them, who have never forgotten for a second that the fans made them what they are. They probably had more to do with making me a race fan than anything else.

I was in Charlotte for the "big engine" race, and at Dover for #199. My son and grandson grew up worshiping race car drivers, and nobody was better than Petty. They both met Richard and Kyle at about the same age, years apart, and treasure pictures of themselves as small boys with their heroes. Now they like Dale Junior and the Busch brothers. Go figure.

Great memories.

I watched the race.

I also have watched 80% of the Olympics and Curling is one of my favorite ones to watch.

Curling is cool. I can remember first seeing it on The Wide World of Sports. Some cute chicks sliding around on ice. The men's version is slightly less interesting.

Oh but the pajamas they get to wear for curling are so cool! I root for the team with the neatest pattern.

I only wish, Clem. We're having our local Highland Games right here in North Florida.

I've been to Scotland three times, but never had the luck to see games there. I hope and pray I get to go back someday before I die.

I admit to watching both Nascar and Olympics. I love curling. It's the only time we get to see it. Nothing in the Olympics bores me.

How about we get a new points leader this year besides Jimmy Johnson??
