I was interested to note in the recent polls, that in every question that included an option for WordPuzzles in the answers, that option won by a long chalk - it seems they are definitely the favourite game on Sploofus!

So I was wondering if Justin was interested in ways to make them more prominent?

More per day probably wouldn't work because of time constraints - I often have to stay up late or make an effort to get to it in time and I still occasionally miss one. I presume others find the same, and the WPs can't be left open like the TQOTD because they are competitive.

However, I did wonder whether it would be possible to have an archive of all the old ones, available to play at a greatly reduced number of points with no competitive angle, like the Trivia Quizzes are? Maybe for 500 points, losing 10 for each wrong letter, or something like that?

Obviously you couldn't play ones that you played on their original release, same as you can only take a quiz once, but I for one would certainly love the opportunity to take some (or all!) of the ones that were released before I joined, and the odd ones I've missed since!

Justin? Any chance? Pretty please?!

Another reason we are unlikely to get past two WPs per day is that they are hard to write. Coming up with a topic, doing the research and brainstorming, and building ten puzzles is a task of comparable complexity to building a ten question Trivia Quiz. Luckily, as I'm sure you've noticed, we have some very good puzzle writers working to keep the flow from running dry. Right now, we're booked about three weeks into September.

I see some value in the idea of re-releasing some of the older Word Puzzles. I will ask Justin and the other editors for their opinions.

I agree with Sploofernatural though: coming up with a workable topic, doing the research and writing the puzzle can sometimes be challenging.

We just hope that everything has been spelled correctly, and that the players like them!

What kind of Word Puzzle topics have been favorites for the members?

I, personally, enjoyed the traditional country singers, singles and duets and "Oldie" tunes from the 50's. I also enjoy the before and after names that connect.

I think the word puzzles are fantastic and i also really like the word rounds and the new word round game. Personally though I wouldn't like to see anymore of the word puzzles each day because it would mean less people were taking the quizzes. lol

I, too, noticed the heavily-weighted polls answers, and am one who enjoys the WP enormously. Berylm's post has awakened hope that there might be more of them.

A consideration that Berylm did not address but which is important to me is that an archive of previous WP at my command would effect weight loss. I'd probably not leave Sploofus for the necessities of life, let alone those things which I do not need...such as donuts

Having just authored my 2nd...gasp...quiz, I can understand the work involved in the WP. I say hire more help! And thanks to all who keep them coming.

Sploofusaurus, you asked which WP topics are our favorites, mine are...
Tom Swifties
"Not Quites"
Before and After (Chain of Names)
Tongue Twisters
"Guess the Theme"

Also, the informative ones...they are usually quite hard but interesting and I learn from them.

Thanks for all the hard work you put into them.

I vote for more puzzles on cats, and more classical music puzzles.

I've pretty much enjoyed all the ones I've taken, even the ones I didn't fare too well on. Ok, not so much that Welsh one. I try to start each puzzle wth one of the more common letters of the English alphabet. And I, only I, was stupid enough to start one of the 'A World Without T's and E's' puzzle with a darned 'T'.

Just another day in my life,....

What about a volunteer group of Wordpuzzle editors? It would take some of the stress off the quiz editors.

That's a good idea, MSkillian - although unless they work out a way of doing it so the WP editors 'take' the WP as they check it (as, apparently, the quiz editors do the quizzes) the volunteers would be volunteering not to take WPs any more!

Even then, the result of the WP editor's taking the quiz would have to be held until the puzzle went live before it was released, or their identities would become obvious ...

Gets awfully complicated, doesn't it?!! lol
