OK so I got a Gold membership but I can't find anything that explains what I can do with it.

I'm pretty sure anyone can use tokens.

Gold does allow you to do both daily word puzzles.

And perhaps the satisfaction of financially supporting the site.

I thought you could only accumulate tokens as a non paying member but not use them......

I lapsed membership for a while - I couldn't use wager tokens.

One of my students is a nonpaying member and I'm
pretty sure he has used some of his accumulated
wager tokens. He has been challenged to
showdowns but I don't think he has instigated one.

I won it by getting a WTHAI. Another question: when you wager in TQOTD it says, "Get it wrong and lose all level points." Do I go back to level 1? What does it mean?

Hi Vanya99. I see you are level 48.9. If you make a wager on a TQOTD and lose, you would go down to level 48.0
I only make wagers when I am low in my level, like I am now. If I were to lose a wager now, I would go from 75.2 down to 75.0.

Hope this helps.

You can always have more "friends", I mean list them as friends., and know when they are online, with a Gold membership. I don't remember being able to really do the checking to see who was online, and if I could have friends, I had a small limit, without the gold membership.

Rickfort: For years, the accounting policy was "Once a member, always a member". You could look through the Member Directory and find hundreds, if not thousands of "members" who hadn't logged into their accounts in years. Many of those folks seemed to have looked around once and never returned. It looked impressive that the site had thousands and thousands of members, but the number of active members bore no resemblance to the total.

The fact is that Sploofus is different things to different people. Some stop by every single day just to take on the challenge of the QOTD, others like the more solitary pursuits of quizzes, word squares and kerplunks. There's a core group of WR/WM players who enjoy the day long comraderie of the Shoutbox, and players who never miss a Word Puzzle.

People come and go, but the regulars tend to stick around a long time. The site's always in flux, and that's pretty much the life of an internet community. Will Sploofus last forever? Of course not, but it'll probably be here when you and I have moved on.

Just one guy's opinion.
