What an interesting episode. I was looking forward to the backstory on this character more than any other. And it didn't disappoint.

I wondered how he became immortal (or was born immortal.) That question was answered.

The entire episode almost played like a movie. The lighting was different. The story line was pretty linear until it jumped to current day. I loved the Spanish components in the story and the reason why he was so motivated. And I liked the fact they wrapped up the guilt about his wife that he could literally and figuratively put to rest.

Considering it didn't focus on one of the main characters that I have been following for 5+ years, this is one of my favorite episodes of all seasons - a non-disjointed story that provided character development, answered questions about some of the story's myths, and I have to say the actor who played Richard did a wonderful and very believable job.

AND, we learned a lot more about Jacob and the man in black. The analogy of the bottle of wine (representing evil) with the island serving as the cork to stop the spread of evil was well done.

If the remaining episodes are anywhere near this level, then buckle your seatbelts!
