I wanted to let you know I lost a very good friend, and member of my family for 14 years today. Our dog Rascal, passed away in his sleep sometime between the time I saw him this morning at 8:00am and Noon. He was very loved by my family, and will be very greatly missed. He was a miniature collie, a sheltie, and was my children's first pet. It is hard on them, as it is me, but probably harder on them as it is the first time they have lost a pet. I, however, having grown up on a ranch, have had my share of heartache with losing pets over the years, but for some reason it does not get any easier. I do know that he is in no pain now, as he was getting quite stove up in the back legs. He will be forever in our hearts and our memories as he was a very fun loving dog who was very much loved. RIP Rascal..........We will always remember you

Rascal sounds like a wonderful member of the family! It's so hard when a loved one goes on to Pet Heaven, and prayers and positive thoughts go out to all of you. Rascal will always live in your hearts, and certainly enriched your lives immeasurably. Rest in peace, Rascal!

I'm very sorry to hear that, Mymaria. Those who have never had a pet often think "it's just an animal". But they are never "just animals". They are family, and losing one is always painful.

I share your grief; be peaceful in the thought that he is in a peaceful location.

Sorry MyMaria

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

In memory of all my furry family that have passed.

Maria: I'm so sorry. I had a sheltie for 14 years named Lancelot. He was one of the loves of my life. I really know how you feel. Rascal was loved by you and your family. What better evidence is there of a life well lived than to love and be loved? Take care. Amy

I'm sorry, Maria. It really is painful when a beloved pet dies. I'm glad Diva put the Rainbow Bridge there for you to read. It really does help.

In time you will be able to focus more on the good memories rather than the loss. But it will take some time. Until then, allow yourself to grieve this lovely pet.

Sorry to hear about Rascal Maria, its tough to lose someone who has been part of your household for so many years . At least he didn't suffer and slipped away to doggie heaven in peace. The one and only I think I ever saw my dad cry was when our Rascal died ( a labrador) a number of years back. Like your Rascal he was the first pet my dad ever had in his house when we were growing up so his death hit him hard. I buried him in the middle of our back lawn with a stick and his favourite tennis ball. A very sad day indeed . Gone but not forgotten R.I.P. Rascal

I'm so sorry to hear about Rascal, Maria. Our pets really do become part of the family. I believe a memorial service may be in order so that you and your kids can find closure and express their feelings.

Hang in there!

I want to say thanks to all of you for your kind words. Though he is gone in body, he will always be with us in spirit. It is hard enough for me, even harder to see how tough it is for the kids. But they say time will heal, I think it will at least lesson the pain. You are a great bunch of people that I consider my friends, and I am glad I found this site.
