PHILLY, ANYONE?

Some interest has been expressed in a Sploof Fest in Philly for spring 07. I'm in, with both daughters and at least one grandson, Sploofers and quizwriters all! I know there are many Sploofers within driving distance and it's a major air and rail hub with copious facilities and attractions for visitors, so what say you, Sploofbrothers and sisters?

Who might be able to make it?

As long as I had enough notice I could do Philly.

I'm definately in! I'm only about 10 minutes from Philly. I know there are quite a few other Sploofusers around this area, hopefully they'll all be interested

Woohoo! Philly could happen! Dates, people! Start with a month--I pick April--hate to fly when things are icy. Or anytime, but...y'know. Philly is gorgeous in April. Also, do we want to check into events and happenings in the city that we can build social events around? Suggestions? Wild ideas?

If April, let's be careful and try not to step on any religious holidays that might keep people home.

Yep, Philly would be a definite for me, given enough advance notice. I would also be willing to drive a couple of people if they don't care to drive themselves. I think Easter is really early in April, so any late-April/early-May weekend would be great!!!!

Fantastic, Aimee! My daughters are also in the area and will help with logistics. Let's see what's going on there in late Apr-early May to see if there's something we want to coincide with (jazz fest, art show, theater etc), or something we don't (proctologist convention, world trade summit). I can arrange to drive up, and together with the other drivers and the local folks we should be able to manage a lot of the transportation with a minimum of fuss and expense.

Everyone google and wiki Philadelphia and environs see what you'd like to do/see. Possibilies abound!

This is so exciting!

For the observant, Easter is the 8th of April, Passover begins on the 20th and ends on the 27th (I think). Any other religious observances, please advise.

Unless we decide to schedule between the two holidays, that makes the target date look like anywhere from the last weekend of April well into May. We should give ample time for everyone who may be interested to weigh in on the dates so we can do our best to accommodate the most people. This is the place to make your preference known now before it's decided.

Pass the word.

I know there's a direct flight from Glasgow to Newark. Not sure about Wales.

Consider yourself in and most welcome! Waiting on Luvmexsun to nail down the dates she's coming east so she can join us too.

Anyone who has calendar issues or holidays to observe, now's the time to share.

Thanks for the holiday calendar Ash; now, can anyone please elaborate on which are the non-travel times for the observant?

Which weekends are absolutely out for you? Which are ideal?

I will be in New York in April and would love to join this event! Unfortunately, due to family obligations, this gives me only one possible time.

If the occasion is the weekend of April 21, I can make it...count me in.

If it must be another time...late May, perhaps I can go back, but will have to see. I would love to meet and enjoy all these wonderful people. Hope it works out for all!!!

Maybe as we churn our way through the holiday season, get past the beginning of a new year and get a look at the bills from Christmas (insert appropriate alternative expensive holiday), folks will be better able to see what their calendars look like and narrow down a date for SplooPhilly '07.

The entire two months (and more) are at my disposal. I'm driving up for an extended visit with my family and friends in the area anyway, and nothing is easier than wrapping my shedule around whatever date is mandated by the pressures of more organized and busy lives than mine.

Philly is a great town to visit with all its rich history, but don't make any cracks about its Liberty Bell......people there don't like it. I am still trying to figure out which is better, Pat's or Geno's, let me know if there any preferences. I wouldn't mind taking in a Phillie game.

It's time to agree on a date. So far we've narrowed it down to April or May. It may be possible to get a group hotel deal, unless everyone would prefer to make their own arrangements. Not an issue for me with family to stay with.

We need Barry...not the Mets but...
Monday, April 16 @ PHI 7:05 PM
Tuesday, April 17 @ PHI 7:05 PM

Now that we have taken care of that, we can expect Barry to buy if the final date is April 14 (Saturday) or April 15 (Sunday) for those that have their taxes completed. Then Barry can stay over and have a good reason to see the Mets trounce Philly.

Breaking News: Surreyman has made it past Ireland I am told by the folks making Bushmills. They ran out! So Alan left for Atlantic City where he learned that the drinks are free if he can play enough Bacharach. No doubt he will trade pub quizzes for beer when he arrives in Philly.

Meeting, socializing and the seeing of sights with fellow Sploofussers. Lots of eating, drinking and being merry. Maybe some games, shopping, an outing together. Lots to do in Philly, we've yet to decide how to best take advantage of what's available. I'm sure the folks who live in the area have some ideas about that?

Sometime between Easter and Mother's Day seem reasonable? Anyone want to try and narrow it down more than that? Since I'm the only one I'm aware of with no time constraints and no need to book a flight ot a hotel room, I'm going to leave it to the rest of you to hash out the details of the schedule.

I also hope we can have a sploofus gathering on the west side of the U.S. so those of us without funny accents don't always have to travel so far to hang out with those of you who do.

Did someone say Jazz?

If we can get 20+ Sploofusers to commit, I might make an official registration form on the site with maps, hotel group rates and blocks, reserve a banquet room for some trivia games, etc. Maybe create some kind of package deal that would include prizes for games, get a web cam so that people that can't make it can watch it, etc. Lots of ideas come to mind. There have been quite a few of these conventions on a small scale and unfortunately I have never made it to any of them because something would come up. Planning this far ahead might make it possible.

But if we do Philly in April, there must also be a west coast convention. I am thinking Vegas or better yet San Diego.

Just noticed Sploofmeister's post--that's AWESOME! That's the kind of thing I hoped could be organized by someone in the area! If you commit to a hotel in the area (consider also one of the outlying hotels--Willow Grove by the Turnpike, Valley Forge, King of Prussia all have lots of facilities and easy access to the city) I'm pretty sure you'd be able to get a better room rate with some amenities. But again we come back around to DATE. How on earth did you all settle on a date for Chicago?

Would everyone who thinks they can possibly make it please consult your calendars and post any dates that are impossible for you, and two that are good?

Its probably best if you pick a date when kids are out of school. For Chicago, I think the Chicago people just finally picked one. It conflicted with some of my plans but Kelly berated me until I decided to cancel my previous plans and go to Chicago. I'm glad I did - it was hellafun and I made some great friends. It gives sploofus another dimension when you get to know these people as more than just names on the screen.

On that note let me also mention that our current picture-posting capabilities are under-utilized, as far as us being more than names on screens goes. Guilty as charged. I'm going to work on that this evening.

For SplooPhilly, I promise to take and post massive amounts of photos and make them available to all. I know other folks will too.

I have no problems making decisions. I set a date, but evidently no one (except Bigbird) took it seriously. For Chicago, Chick and Sblv stepped up and picked the date. But I'm not a planner in this one, so I will bow out.

So, Donna, if you just pick one now, it would be great. No specific date will be perfect for everyone.

I am probably going to be a lost cause. If we are talking about April - May....
I could only make it the following dates:

Sat night - Sunday April 14,15
Sunday April 22
weekend of May 26, 27 (my birthday!)

I am, however, totally open in June.

I plan on being there anytime end of April through mid May. I love Allena's suggestion of Cinco de Mayo! Later May gets into graduations, many are still in school in June, especially back East. I already have two weddings to attend in June too.

That's my time frame: Mid April through early May.
