Just wanted to let everyone know that the meeting yesterday went ok. I did not lose my temper and I kept my cool. the teacher in question though took a personal day if you can believe that! Tim has 18 credits right now and only needs four more to graduate. Next year they will go from 6 classes to 7...that means a longer school day!
The only thing that upset me was Tim's math teacher saying that he wasn't ready to take the Gateway Math test. This is a test that all Tennessee students have to take to be able to graduate. Tim has a 92.3 average in Math right now and he scored in the top 15% in the state on the Math section of the ACT...I can't for the life of me figure out where she claims he isn't ready! Anyway, thanks everyone for letting me vent the other day. You guys are the best and I love ya all!

I'm glad that things went well for you and your son. I did ask about the Gateway. Unfortunately, no one really knew much about it. That test is not given at our school in WI.
Congrats on keeping your cool! Amy

I'm sincerely happy that things went well for you and your son. I'm a bit perturbed that the teacher in question would take a personal day when she knew you would be coming in for a meeting. That stinks.

I'd insist on a meeting with the teacher who wasn't there. You have the right to face the accuser so to speak. She opened this door and you need to gain the information about what she meant.

Did you find out why he can't take this test when his average is 92.3? What was their ratonale? Don't stop asking until you're satisfied with the answers.

I hope the school at least acted a little embarassed that the teacher took a personal day instead of facing you. What a lame thing to do.

Saw this in the Miami Herald yesterday, and it reminded me of this thread; so I just had to post.

Urgh - the Gateway!

We have four classes each semester here and the class sessions are called "blocks". At first I didn't like the idea, but the kids adapted quickly and it seems to be working well. A longer time in each class and only four to concentrate on - it's more like "college" and my three all responded well that were in school at that time.

Hate to hear your school is going to 7 classe per day. Too many.

Unfortunately, some parents do not just vent their ire, but do nasty things to teachers because they justly critisise the little angel in question. Perhaps this teacher had had enough of threats from parents of kids that he/she was trying to teach.

I see that you do not like adverse comments, in your opinion, otherwise you would not have given me a smack in the head. Lots of hugs and kisses to you and the teacher in question .
