THEORIES AND PREDICTIONS

Okay, let's throw out any ideas we may have about how things will all end/come together/blow us away/etc.

A friend today suggested that those who are "infected" might actually know about both timelines. Interesting, but I don't think it holds up as Rousseaus's colleagues got infected before the Losties ever arrived and set off the bomb, causing the split.

So I'm thinking the show can end only one of 3 ways.

1. The MIB gets off the island and all life as we know it ends. Not a likely ending.

2. The MIB gets killed. Not likely as you have to stab him in the heart before he speaks to you. Most everyone has already heard him. I suppose Widmore could do it, but wouldn't that be sort of anti-climactic?

3. The MIB gets trapped on the island again. Which would require a replacement for Jacob, meaning one of the candidates has to stay on the island. I think this is what will happen and I think that candidate will be.....(drum roll) Jack. I think Jack has shown that he is becoming a man of faith after all his years of being a man of science. Plus, who was the one always so intent and working so hard to leave? That's right, Jack. Besides, how cool would it be for it to end with Jack and Flocke on the beach together the way Jacob and Esau were, with Flocke telling Jack he'll find a way and kill him? Way cool.

Hey there,

I posted on the other thread about Jack. I think that is what's going to happen. It's interesting, too, after Tuesday's episode that Jack went back to the island. Hmmm....

I agree. It looks like, at least for now, that Jack may be "the one."

However, one thing that still bugs me is that Kate was not one of the finalists when she was clearly touched by Jacob as a child.
I'm wondering how they will resolve that Jack has a son in the alternate timeline but doesn't have one in the island timeline.

I also wonder if the two timelines are going to merge together propelled by the people who are recognizing these two separate lives (via their constant). Would it be possible that Jack would have to make a Sophie's choice of giving up his son (i.e., he had never been born) from the new timeline, if it meant saving the world in the regular time line?

I've been wondering about the resolution of the two timelimes, too. I think you may be right about the choice Jack may have to make. I can't believe than in only 6 weeks, we'll know.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the finale as it looks like it will be on a Sunday instead of a Tuesday. Wouldn't want to miss it. I say when it's over we all head over here and discuss it!! Yay!!

I agree. I hope I have either an "AHA!" moment when it ties together
OR
"Duh" why didn't I see that coming?

Either way, it's all good.

O.K., after Tuesday's episode, do you all think Jack is under MIB's control? If I'm correct Claire was in an explosion and perhaps that is when she came under MIB's control? From the look on Jack's face it would seem he has changed, but what do you all think? Off the topic: Went on a trip to Houston this past week with my husband. It was a business trip so I had to kill time. I went to the Galleria mall and walked into a Hallmark store. I had my I LOST shirt on and the first thing the clerk said was "Are you sad this is the final season?" She said she doesn't watch it but she knew that it was the last season. Then later that evening we went out to eat and the first thing our waiter said was his best friend was obsessed with the show and then he proceeded to start talking all about it. It was so funny because he mentioned "the Spanish guy" (Richard), Dharma Initiative, and "The Fog Monster." For some reason, that cracked me up. I had to correct him and say "It's actually the SMOKE Monster." People that don't even watch the show seem to know all about it. Mark of a great show!

LOL. Love your stories from your trip. Hope you and hubby had a nice time.

I actually don't think Jack is being influenced by the MIB - I think he's a changed man. I'm not sure if you have seen the earlier episodes, but if so, do you remember the episode called Man of Science, Man of Faith? (http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Man_of_Science,_Man_of_Faith) In that episode, they set up that Locke is the man of faith. He believes it is their destiny to be on the island and it is leading them to something good. But Jack is shown to be a man of science who just can't seem to take that leap of faith and let things happen - he has to control things himself because who else could be in control?

So I think Jack has finally seen enough unbelievable things that he now has some faith - especially seen when he sits with Richard as the fuse burns down and insists that it will be alright. He believed. Something he'd never really done before.

Which is why I think he will be the island's next protector. Apparently the protector has to be a man of faith, and who better to take over than the one who became a man of faith rather than one who was always sort of that way?

Just my opinion.

I agree. I think Jack has a sense about the island and he remembers regretting leaving it the first time.

I don't think either Jack or Desmond are on the MIB's side, but they will use the opportunity to overthrow him,
keep him captivity or however you view the "cork in the wine bottle" analogy. I think it's also critical who
Kate will eventually stay with. For those who have a "constant," they will probably migrate together to
the sideways timeline. Just guessing.

That's an interesting idea - migrating sideways to your constant. I like that! That could mean a happy ending for Hurley and Libby - wouldn't that be nice?

Hmmmm.....

I'm gonna think about the implications of that one Thanks!

I'm really hoping for some kind of happy ending. Otherwise, I'm going to be disappointed.

You know, I thought about that idea a lot today and I like where it leads:

Hurley and Libby happily together
Innocent Kate and Cop Sawyer happily together
Jin and Sun happily together with baby daughter
Claire not alone, pregnant and scared, but with her half-family, and probably Charlie, and money to raise Aaron, happily together
Desmond and Penny, happily together with son Charlie
Daniel Faraday and Charlotte, happily together
etc, etc, etc

I LOVE IT!

I got scared when I saw that and thought I'd missed something. Haven't - they're just messing with our emotions.

That sounds wonderful; everyone having a happy ending. I don't think it's far-fetched at all. Won't be long!
