As some of you might have noticed in the shout box I had my building trailer stolen from right outside my house last Thursday night. I had it locked on to works van with a rather large padlock. Anyway the bligthers that stole it cut it was a bolt cutters and had away with it. I had given up hope of every seeing it again as normally items like my trailer are quickly transported up the country to be re-sold.

I got a call today from the local police station saying that they thought they had found it. I had to go and identify it and low and behold t'was it. I'm overjoyed that I got it back as I could not have afforded to purchase another one at this time. They caught the guy who stole it red handed or black handed as might be the case. He was repainting the trailer black when the cops caught him. So I have my trailer back with a lovely new paint job and the guy that stole is banged up in the local nick lol . My luck must be in I must remember to go and buy a lotto ticket you'd never know LOL

I mentioned to you that I was confident that it would be recovered. I know you're relieved. Glad it was so soon.

Great story Clem! Just out of curiosity, what color was the trailer originally?

Good for you Irishpainter. My brother was not so lucky when his car was found. The thieves had stripped it. I'm glad for you.

I believe I had said something about being positive about it's return. So thrilled you got it back. God works in mysterious ways you know. You just had to believe

Thanky y'all for your kind words. I was a wee bit quick on Monday to say I got my trailer back. Its still being held in the police compond nearly a week later. The trouble is I have to prove ownership of the damn thing otherwise they wont release it to me. Now thats where the problem lies. I brought the trailer about three years ago for cash €1200 from a local company who have since gone out of business. For some unknown reason i didnt lookfor/get a receipt for proof of purchase. Now dont get me wrong the trailer wasn't hookey or anything but I had just finished a job and had gotten paid cash so instead of all the hassle with cheques/bank I decided to pay in cash.

I have a meeting tomorrow AGAIN with the police officer who is handling the case so I'm hoping that he will accept my word that IT IS my trailer otherwise I dont know what i'll do. If I had known that I was going to get all this trouble I wouldnt have bother going to look at the trailer in the first place. I can only wait and see what happens.

Don't trailers have to be registered in Ireland?

No Judy all we have to do is bang a licence plate on the back and bob's your uncle.

Wow, in NY state in the US, we have to register any trailer, even homemade, and get a license plate for it. Tho there are a few exceptions for jobsite trailers, and equipment that can be towed but can't carry other stuff. How do you get a license plate for it if you don't register it????

Might as well finish off what I started. Well I got my trailer today . Its sitting in its rightful place out in my garage. I finally convinced the cop who was handling my case that it was mine. A right thick Cork hoor he was too . I have to repaint it again buy a new jockey wheel and a new number plate. Other than that I'm ready to motor. . Thanks again for all the kind words and encouragement. Every little bit helps.

P.S. I did the lotto Saturday night but I didn't win suppose my luck only extended to getting my trailer back LOL.

Your grateful sploofus buddy
